Comedy Horror Movie Poll!

Help pick the Comedy Horror movie we will react to for Spooky Season!

Please feel free to suggest other options in the comments for future polls!

Comments

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

John Z.

Is it sacrilege to say I LIKED THE Anton Yelchtin/ Colin Ferrell Fright Night a smidge better

Byron Easley

Definitely watch the feature film version of What We Do In The Shadows. Taika Waititi & co as vampires - hilarious. Young Frankenstein is the best horror comedy of all time, but I think you've already seen it? And then there's the perfect, beautiful, amazing, hilarious worst movie ever made Plan 9 From Outer Space. Seriously, Plan 9 is worth watching, so bad - but so earnest - it's a work of art.

Neal Romanek

Tales from the Crypt was indeed an anthology show on HBO from 1989 to 1996 based on the EC Comics of the 1950s.

Jason Chirevas

Creepshow is classic horror. I never thought of it as comedy. Perhaps it has some comedic elements but it's definitely scary. After watching Creepshow 2 I was terrified of going swimming in the water for years. Both are definite must watches. The Creepshows and Tales from the Crypt. I dunno if Tales from the Crypt was actually a show or just a comic book. I can't remember. I know I had TftC comic books as a kid. I loved them. That and Garbage Pail Kids were the best.

Alex

I am already ashamed.

Aaron Barlow

I know this is a horror poll, but with all the comments about Peter Jackson I have to ask the big obvious question: Have the two of you watched The Lord of The Rings?

Nick of Time

Yes it is, but they’ve seen it and “Shaun of The Dead” as well.

Nick of Time

Indeed! Took me a long time to finally give it a try (I thought it looked derivative and cliche), but when I did I was very, very pleasantly surprised. That movie is a ton of fun after watching so many cliché horror movies.

Nick of Time

It’s only unfortunate if you didn’t enjoy them. 😌

Nick of Time

We have seen these both, unfortunately! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

I would dispute that Heathers is in any way horror. It is a hilarious dark satire about conformity (among other things).

Michael Soukup

Bad Taste is a fantastic lesson in how to stretch a budget

Nick Sneddon

Re-Animator is a classic, highly recommend

Ken Veader

Skip the sequels? Dawn of the Dead is the best of the trilogy and Day of the Dead is Tom Savini's best special effects showcase

Ken Veader

It pains me to see Dead Alive so low! I used to screen it for friends just to watch their reactions!

Alan Kingsley

4th, after the hilariously bad Bad Taste(1987) and Meet the Feebles(1989), if you count the 20 min short film The Valley

mikethemotormouth

Cabin in the Woods is truly unique.

Ed R

i haven't seen Tucker&Dale either. fate knew a watch along would cross my path. Re-Animator 👍🏼 a odd fun film

YoureMrLebowski

Zombie comedy recommendations: •Shaun of The Dead (2007) •Zombieland (2009)

Nick of Time

A couple that are missing from this list: Killer Klowns from Outer Space(1988) Attack of the Killer Tomatoes(1978)

mikethemotormouth

LOL, bro, you're saying that having WATCHED all the horror tropes in film. These guys haven't even watch Hellraiser. There are VERY specific things in CITW that would be totally missed unless you watch at least 30 to 40 other movies.

Mike keith

Honestly I would stick to what you have, Tucker & Dale is something you see AFTER you watch all these old slasher movies, same with Cabin in the Woods, watch both of these movies LAST, maybe wait till next year, cause the more movies you see(HellRaiser esp) the more you'll appreciate CITW)

Mike keith

Both of those movies are fantastic, HOWEVER, if you had to see only one, def pick the Re-Animator. It's a great Lovecraftian movie, and has some of most iconic 'Head' scenes in all of movie history, lol.

Mike keith

Yes, they are in the same "universe" so to speak, but you only need to see the very first black and white movie, and not its sequels to watch "Return". Without any spoilers that's all I can really say. But "Return" was written and directed by the writer and creator of the first (and basically the entire series I guess) Alien(1979) movie directed by Ridley Scott. Dan O'Bannon wrote and directed the first "Reute of the Living Dead" movie, and it is a fucking MASTERPIECE is horror comedy. But yes, watch the first NOTLD movie and just skip the sequels for now, then you can go to Return, also Return totally deletes the NOTLD(Romaro) sequels anyways, so it may be confusing if you watched ALL the Dead movies before the Return movie, Return also has a sequel, however it would be hard to find in good quality. I have a copy but it's not suitable for yt IMO, I don't think it made it to BD yet.

Mike keith

Haven't seen Tucker & Dale - but Re-Animator is great. Judging by your response to the Evil Dead franchise this one is an easy recommendation.

Sergeant Pepper

That’s the one I voted for.

Tim Raths

Heathers is such an amazing film. Sad to see it so far down in the voting. Christian Slater and Winona Ryder are so young and so amazing.

TGrimace

Hi All! From these comments I’m realizing I left two films off of the poll! 🤦🏻‍♀️ are-Animator and Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Clearly, it was too late for my brain when I posted these. Let us know what you think of these films and I’ll make sure to add them to future horror polls! Sorry! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Also "Zombieland" is pretty funny horror movie.

KevG

Yep brilliant film

Nick Sneddon

I watched Idle Hands quite a few times, good movie!

Jen Barnes

It's absolutely brilliant. It's not popular enough to win though

Nick Sneddon

Yes! It's a great film

Nick Sneddon

Whoops! Posted this on the regular Horror poll. I'll repost it here. One of my favorite comedy / horror (with much, much more comedy than horror) "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948). Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolf Man, and a special surprise guest.

Miles E Coburn

Sam, that totally makes sense. You’ve seen Scream right? Scream, I know what you did last summer are the 2 main movies it spoofs. If you have not seen scream, please add that one to future horror polls.

Jeff Phillips

Was going to include this but I thought it had to be seen after the Night of the Living Dead which we haven’t seen! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

OH NO!! Tucker & Dale was on the list! Ah crap it was supposed to be last! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Not sure if I should redo the poll now -Sam

TBR Schmitt

We want to watch it but I don’t think we’ve seen everything it spoofs yet! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

"The Return of the Living Dead" doesn't get enough reactions, and it invented the fast zombie.

Thomas Yanez

Some films just can't win polls. Instead, they need wise channel owners to select them. Daniel and Sam generally choose much better films than we do!

Future Boy

Killer clowns from outer space

Rick Rodriguez (PicoMan Photography)

I voted for 4, including Heathers (1989), which is more a dark comedy maybe?

YoureMrLebowski

Write in votes for The Return of the Living Dead (1985) and The Lost Boys (1987)

YoureMrLebowski

I didn't even catch that. :) Absolutely not a horror.

Ron Moses

Love Planet Terror! It's tied to Death Proof which you've already seen so I really hope you watch it at some point

Odd Thomas

Ohh! Creep show or The Return of the Living Dead!

Monica Vasquez

I second Tucker and Dale vs Evil. So good.

James Van Dyke

The Burbs is definitely my most watched film too lol. I can just never get tired of it. I literally grew up wanting to live in that neighborhood lol which my sister says was in Universal Studios way back in the day. Thought it was so cool they got to see the houses.

Jonathan Patrick

Back to back recommendations for The 'Burbs! This community has great taste. The 'Burbs is in my top 3 or 4 films of all time, and it still has my favourite opening shot ever.

Future Boy

I also can't believe Drag Me to Hell doesn't have more votes. This movie has everything - 2 seances gone terribly wrong, close combat in a sub compact car, grave robbing, old hag curse, animal sacrifice, a Pit of Hell, and a whole lot more. Plus it's directed by Sam Rami. Tons of fun this one

Smooticus

The bad news is that Heathers won't win this poll. The good news is that it's not a horror film, so feel free to watch it anytime you want :)

Future Boy

2 excellent choices. I love them both. I've seen The 'Burbs more times than any other film. It would make a great "light" choice for Halloween!

Future Boy

How the hell do you not have Tucker and Dale vs Evil on this list???

Smooticus

FRIGHT NIGHT !!

Nelly Nilsen

CREEPSHOW ALL THE WAY! Just saw yet another fantastic reaction to that one on "Popcorn Reactions", that one is a slam dunk!

Toc

Dead Alive is Peter Jacksons 2nd or 3rd film iirc – its absolutely brilliant as well

Nick Sneddon

Since you guys liked the Evil Dead series, one I'd recommend Bubba Ho-Tep (2002). A rather unknown horror comedy with Bruce Campbell

Ravi Subasegaran

Idle Hands should be a good fit here too. Great now that you've seen the first Evil Dead movies :) If you want to get really hipster there's also some great non-us movies in this genre: Frostbiten/Frostbitten (Swedish) and Död Snö/Dead Snow (Norweigen) are great ones!

Robin Cederholm

Saturday the 14th is a classic horror/comedy movie

Jeff Phillips

Scary Movie is a real funny horror/ comedy if you haven’t seen it, add it to future polls please!

Jeff Phillips

Hemsworth's other horror comedy is the Ghostbusters remake, scary and funny for all the wrong reasons.

Aaron Barlow

To be fair most 'references' are just standard horror tropes.

Aaron Barlow

Cabin in the woods is good.

Aaron Barlow

All of those movies are awesome, but Cabin in the Woods in fantastic. You might not get many of the references though without watching these other choices first.

Mike keith

Re-Animator (1985) is a classic horror comedy, so is Frankenhooker (1990) , Bill Murray highly recommends

Ken Veader

Creepshow is hilarious

Brian Nau

You have to watch "The Burbs" from 1989 with Tom Hanks and "The Witches of Eastwick" from 1987 with Jack Nicholson and Cher and Michelle Pfeiffer !! Both are so much fun and Classics of the 80's !!! Perfect Reaction to Comedy Horror ;)

Florian Meier

Comedy Horror The Burbs (1989) Tom Hanks The Monster Squad (1987)

Jonathan Patrick

lol, welp, this one's decided! xD I'm happy that it's one that I haven't watched yet. :)

Logan Kerlee

Fright Night is such a classic and so much fun

Pixie

Peter Jackson's Dead Alive is so wonderfully gross

kbobravo

Voted for FRIGHT NIGHT and CABIN IN THE WOODS. Even though you guys should absolutely see HEATHERS, I couldn’t vote for it here in good conscience as it’s a black comedy, not a horror movie at all.

Jason Chirevas

Fright Night! 😎 And Fright Night 2 - (1988)

Jonathan Patrick
