Scarface (1983) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Hey Everyone! We hope you enjoy Scarface! We did do our first paid sponsorship :) Giving it a try, so there's a little ad in the intro. We absolutely do not expect you to purchase the subscription, but if you happen to want to try it, I don't think the code is live yet. We just wanted to prioritize getting the full length up.

Thanks!

Scarface (1983) First Time Watching! Full Movie Reaction!!

Comments

It has taken me awhile to get to this reaction, which was excellent. Reading the comments, there are no Breaking Bad fans in here? I wonder how many recognized Sosa's hitman as "Uncle" Tio Salamanca from Breaking Bad?

This movie is definitely up there on my faves list! I'm so glad that you both reacted to this one. I first watched this movie when I was a youngster! My older brother introduced me to it and I was hooked. It totally grew on me over the years as well. I'm glad you both enjoyed this one, as well! It's a very dark ride but an entertaining one. The music, the direction, all of it. I'm seriously stoked that this was picked! When I hopped on here and saw the reaction my jaw dropped and a smile appeared. This one's probably my favorite reaction, thanks to the enthusiasm that you both shared at the end. Not going to lie, I was worried that you both weren't digging on it.

Logan Kerlee

Totally different themed film recommendation, but I'd love to see a reaction to 1984's Amadeus. F Murray Abraham (Omar) gives one of the best performances in all cinema as Antonio Salieri. Watch the Director's Cut, it's already a lengthy film, but it does NOT feel like 3 hours. Incredible music throughout, of course. Also outstanding performances by Tom Hulce and Elizabeth Berriage. Milos Forman is the director, another great visionary.

Donna Castellano

I can't wait until The Insider makes the channel. I'm sure it'll be awhile. I've also mentioned Miller's Crossing before, but I'll mention it again because it's a gangster movie. This and The Untouchables are so interesting to compare and contrast as De Palma's gangster movies. The Untouchables is in the vein of 1930s gangster pictures (like the aforementioned original Scarface), whereas this is more contemporary, fitting in with the violent style of the 1980s.

Tyler Foster

Michelle Pfeiffer is awesome. What Lies Beneath, Batman Returns and Stardust are my favourite of her films

Odd Thomas

Thanks for mentioning Casualties of War 👍

Jonathan Patrick

I love this movie so much. Oddly, I saw this movie right after I saw CARLITO'S WAY (amazing flick by the way!) and it's interesting to see if Tony Montana would've been allowed to live, this would probably be the apex of his life. But Tony went south pretty quick in his cocaine-laced days. And cheers. Nice to see you guys have a big boy drink during a flick. Makes everything more relaxing. I should probably also toss out there, if it weren't for all that cocaine, Miami wouldn't be the city it is today. Trippy.

Philip Davetas

Lol

Alex

I've been traveling so I'm a biiiiit late to the party, but that was a fantastic reaction! For a movie to hold up (so strongly!) after 40 years is quite a feat!! Manny's death gets me every time... poor bastard. Obviously Pacino deserves a catalogue go-through but, since you just watched this one, you gotta do Carlito's Way (1993) next (I'm guessing I'm not the first person to say this.) Same producer, director, and star (different writers, but equally as talented.) It's the unofficial sequel to Scarface and it's fantastic (Sean Penn is farcically great in it but John Leguizamo ends up stealing the entire movie, in his first substantial role ever.)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

I would have guessed Martian before Colombian.

Erwin Quiachon

Second for Falling Down! It’s an excellent little gem that I feel like everyone knew in the nineties but has fallen off our collective radars in last twenty years.

Alan Kingsley

Gotta react to Brian DePalma's Blow Out, great flick!

Ken Veader

" I always tell the truth--even when I lie" best line in the movie! Tony knows exactly who and what he is. great Film!!!

Chris Bruneau

"Say hallo to ma' lil fren!"

Odd Thomas

What Lies Beneath is so underrated. Great Robert Zemeckis film with Harrison Ford & Michelle Pfeiffer!

Odd Thomas

I read a long time ago, that Pacino insisted on using a real M16 for that scene.

Guston Zimasheen

Now you have to throw in a few dance moves occassionally, to really surprise us.

Guston Zimasheen

Great time. After so many times seeing it what really stuck with me was Tony's mother telling him to get lost.

Will Zamora

Beat me to the recommendation! Comparing the relationship between Pfeiffer and Pacino in "Frankie and Johnny" to "Scarface", you get punched in the face with the outstanding range of those two actors. Incredible transformation.

Erwin Quiachon

I would love to see more De Palma on the channel as well.

Mark M

Glad someone mentioned Georgio. He has some unforgettable soundtracks.

Mark M

I can kind of see it in his beard. He has a hispanic beard. Which reminds me a bit of the villain from Toy Soldiers and now I'm thinking of all kinds of lines from that movie. You guys would love that movie.

Alex

Yes 😉 i love this Movie and your Reaction !! You Really have to watch "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas !! You will love it !!! Another Great Michelle Pfeiffer Movie is "Dangerous Minds" from 1995 !! Great Movie !!! And "Wolf" from 1994 with Jack Nicholson as Co Star !!! My Favorite One is "What Lies Beneath" from 2000 With Harrison Ford

Florian Meier

Oh, I like the film well enough. It's definitely one of the most iconic ones. I just don't love it or think it's a masterpiece like some people do. But that's okay. Great reaction btw!

Shehab Dawoud

Aww that’s okay! Not everyone will like every film 😊 we turned on the subtitles and then ended up turning them off on this one but maybe should have left them on! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

😂😂😂 straight to jail! Yes! We can’t wait to explore more De Palma! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Alec! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Interesting haha I don’t have any experience in a Hispanic household but that’s funny! And yes, he is half Colombian! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Yay! Thanks so much! We’ll definitely be checking out Carlitos Way! -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Totally agreed poor Manny. Yes! Definitely have Carlito’s Way on our Pacino List 😊 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Ah that makes a lot more sense if there was more to the story than we saw here 😳 -Sam

TBR Schmitt

Aww thank you so much! Oh no way!! That’s really cool he came in. Love to see the big directors collaborating. Omg haha but ouch that sounds so painful! -Sam

Jason Dolan

This is just a movie and a Pacino performance that I could never love. This was where we started to lose the nuanced Pacino we saw In The Godfather 1 & 2, and he slowly started to turn into the overacting yeller that he became in most of his following movies. Sometimes it works (Heat), other times, it just doesn't. His terrible Cuban accent in this one doesn't help, it's just awful On another note, you might consider watching movies with subtitles, it helps.

Shehab Dawoud

Reaction and outro discussion both top-tier, as always. But I am a little disappointed that you didn't find a cocaine sponsor for this one! In my opinion, you still have De Palma's best work to come: Blow Out, Carrie, Carlito's Way, Casualties of War (if you can stomach a Vietnam war film even more brutal than Platoon).

Future Boy

Definitely Carlito's Way! Pacino and De Palma again, and my favourite of these 2 iconic films.

Future Boy

GIORGIO MORODER, the composer, was quite big in pop scene in the 70's/80's, mostly did a string of Disco hits, including "I Feel Love" and "Love To Love You Baby" with Donna Summer (both were huge hits), as well as movie soundtracks. He relied heavily on electronic instruments and by all accounts served as a massive inspiration for Daft Punk's music. Here are some of the best Moroder's movie soundtracks/songs, you might recognize some of them :) https://youtu.be/1LhY6r1SNyo

For some reason back then Spanish people didn't like each other. As in a lot of Cubans didn't like Mexicans, Colombians.. Some Mexicans don't like Cubans etc. I always thought it was dumb. And the whole fight scene with Tony and his sister when she was with that guy, and how they're yelling at each other that's pretty much normal for Hispanic families. At least Cuban ones. If your family doesn't yell at each other in Spanglish every now and then you're not really in a Hispanic family. Spanish people in general are hot headed but Cubans especially so. But Daniel is Colombian??? I would have never guessed lol.

Alex

It's not just Scarface. In terms of movies there's also in Tango and Cash, and just in general. Unless you want to be the subject of anger and possibly hatred you don't try to date a friend's sister or female relative. It's understandable if you're a womanizer and you are looking at messing around with a friend's sister, but if you're a good guy and you genuinely like a friend's sister..

Alex

Yes! Not to mention, it is another Brian De Palma film.

Mr. Writhms

This was such a treat to watch with you guys! Im so happy you finally watched it! It's in my personal top five best movies of all time! and I second some other people on here that Carlitos way is a must watch whether its the next Pacino movie you watch or sometime in the near future, Carlitos way is a masterpiece as well!

dieselbeast

I second "Carlito's Way". Pacino plays a far more likable character so you don't have to feel a little weird to cheer for him lol

Jeffrey Miller

Yeah, if you have a big problem with your best friend dating your sister, what kind of friends do you keep?

Jeffrey Miller

Great reaction and yea Manny was super loyal to Tony. He could’ve just pistol whipped him or something but I guess he was high out of his mind. Also you guys should checkout “Carlitos Way” another Al Pacino classic

Richard

That plot line is straight out of the original 1932 film(and the novel). There are clear incestuous overtones with Tony and his sister.

Birdie Num Num

I don't get the whole angry response to someone dating someone in your family. I think the exact same as Sam.. Wouldn't you want her to be with a good guy who will treat her well as opposed to some garbage dude? How is a family member like anyone else you care about. You would be happy for a female friend of yours if she got with a good dude. Why should family members be any different? This whole movie is a tragedy. The only reason that it ended the way it did was because he didn't want to kill kids.

Alex

Oh wow. I never knew this but I'm not really surprised. Spielberg always knows how to raise the level. Man, that's neat info.

PIG

Been waiting for this one! Congrats on the sponsor! Your ad was very charming. Bravo! Part of the final gun battle scene in "Scarface" was directed by Steven Spielberg, though uncredited. He and Brian De Palma are friends and he asked Spielberg to step in and help him for a short time. Pacino burned his hand pretty badly on the M-16 he was firing, after grabbing the hot barrel. I wonder if Spielberg was directing at that time. Imagine him when De Palma returned to the set. "Er-- Brian, Pacino is in the hospital. He burned his hand on the gun. Ok, bye! Good luck!" LOL

Mr. Writhms

Same with me with Goodfellas. I was 12 when Joe Pesci stabs the dude in the trunk with a kitchen knife and I was nearly in tears at the sheer violence. My parents almost stopped the VHS but I convinced them to continue. That scene was worse than horror movies for me.

PIG

Congrats on the sponsorship, you cracked me up.

Jen Barnes

Great scene

Will Zamora

I love Al Pacino's performance. it's over the top, but it fits the character so well.

Carlos Hurtado

I always assumed, by the way she seemed to have an epiphany, that Elvira probably got herself cleaned up and lived a normal life.

Vwlss Nvwls

Oh, congratulations on your first sponsorship! I don't drink alcohol, never have, but glad to see this for you two.

Vwlss Nvwls

Tony wasn't such a bad guy. He gave his life to save innocent women and children. :P

Vwlss Nvwls

Chocolate is right up my alley. Explains all the brown stains

Guston Zimasheen

Frankie & Johnny is an amazing reuniting of Pacino and Pfeiffer that you'll get to one day

Jason Dolan

Keep it up, Lebowski :)

PIG

it's seems really weird, actually. like seeing a photo of a bald guy when he had hair.

YoureMrLebowski

Tony's mother's performance (Miriam Colón, also Tuco's mother in Better Call Saul) when she turned her son away still raises the hair on my arms to this day. It looked theater-level.

PIG

You guys deserve sponsorship. Tony would do it. First you get the money, then you get the power, and then you get the women. The world is yours!

Ellie Miller

Did you guys recognize Manny from Primal Fear?

Jason Dolan

It's so unusual seeing you guys actually standing. XD Good job on the ad sponsor!

EdmanXERO

I first saw this movie in 1985, when I was 15 almost 16. My father rented it and we both loved it, but that chainsaw scene has haunted me my whole life. I had never seen anything like that in a movie before.

Vwlss Nvwls

"Cock-a-roach"

PIG

Well damn, I just canceled Peacock a few days ago cause I have too many streaming services

Jeffrey Miller

Great commercial! Guess I picked the wrong week to give up drinking... 🥃

YoureMrLebowski

Damn… just as I laid down and was about to get some sleep. Oh well, tomorrow it is then!
