Update on AEW number, WBD reaction
Added 2024-08-30 19:49:56 +0000 UTCThere's been an update to the AEW viewership for this week.
AEW Dynamite topped the night on cable Wednesday for their August 28 show, initially landing at 691,000 average viewers. However, it looks like that number was closer to 697,000 after correcting their number.
WBD issued an internal correction within the company and AEW noting that Neilsen times that are sometimes off by a few minutes with sports and programs with overruns that are granted. That happened with AEW this week, as Neilsen accounted for three more minute on the AEW broadcast. WBD said that ended up adding about 6,000 average viewers.
It was also noted from a WBD sources that the they're not as sensitive to the overall number as opposed to how the shows rank on cable. Dynamite hit number one this week in the P18-49.

In my opinion, the only time rankings will matter to me is when I hear the networks aren’t happy..which hasn’t even happened yet

2024-08-30 20:25:51 +0000 UTCSounds like it's not even that. Win the key demo. That's where the advertising money is.

2024-08-30 20:14:07 +0000 UTCFair. I thought it meant that the three-minute overrun just wasn’t factored at all into the original number

2024-08-30 20:09:45 +0000 UTCIf the over run time was included in the denominator, but the viewership was not included in the numerator, then it would bring average viewership down by quite a bit. Basically, if they assumed the average viewership was 0 for 3 out of 123 minutes, instead of whatever it was, that’d skew the numbers.

2024-08-30 20:08:36 +0000 UTCDo not care as long as the wrestling is good!

2024-08-30 20:05:36 +0000 UTCThe number was misreported internally

2024-08-30 20:05:35 +0000 UTCRatings for wrestling shows and attendance count. Is something I wish would die. It only creates problems for the industry and the only people who should give a crap are the suits and ties. The only people who tout numbers are usually all the wrestling accounts that people with common sense stay far far away from. You can report them without making it a weekly habit to embarrass fans. That’s why I stay here with the smart people.

2024-08-30 20:04:07 +0000 UTCA three-minute overrun bumped their average by 6,000? Someone correct my math, but that would mean the overrun averaged 937,000. That seems unlikely.

2024-08-30 20:01:23 +0000 UTCYeah everyone obsessing about the raw viewer numbers when dynamite was still #1. I think I've seen multiple times that WBD just wants them to win their time slot which they do most of the time.
