It really sucks that most of the comments you got were people complaining about the breathing or the AI (I thought the breathing was funny! or just a part of what you do, like your personality or whatever ) and the AI videos like yeah AI art sucks etcetc but also Ive never been upset for the exact reason you described - watching your videos you've talked about living out of your car and not having money - using AI for animation and art is mostly an issue on a grander scale, like actual companies, not youtubers who are already doing a crazy amount of labor in their video. + I think I added a comment on the wrong video - but the work youre doing is really cool - your jokes made sense, I think the way you approach your work makes sense - I say just keep doing what you're doing man, I can't say any more how amazing your work is. I've been keeping up with the slaughter vomit dolls story (as in of the director and the cult itself) since I was like, a teen, so finally seeing this guy get exposed has been a huge relief. AI is just such a touchy subject right now, as it's growing insanely rapidly and has the potential for insane things. Some people say get rid of it, so if you decide to maintain that decision you could replace it with this idea: What if you just put it out there that you were accepting artists on a volunteer basis. a member of your community or anyone really could do some basic still frames instead of ai art. It could even be like different artists doing different parts so the art style is constant changing and shows as many of the artists who were interested as possible (assuming many people volunteer their stuff) It doesn't have to be anything crazy, and you could just credit their username or whatever. It's cringe to say like "do it for the exposure" but if that's the extent of what you can offer it's worth a shot, right? And it doesn't have to be anything super labor intensive. It wouldn't be as efficient as the ai art, but it would have more character and feel more differentiated to the viewer.

I'm not a fan of the AI either (it's trained on artist's work without their permission and without compensation, which is stealing. it's also super awful for the environment). Use a pop filter and make a small sound booth using sound absorption foam, then you can use a filter to isolate the breath and remove it in post in audition or DaVinci Resolve

I mean, I think the alternative to the AI art can just be crappily photoshopped stock photos. Internet Historian does this all the time and it's fun, it's got its own charm. AI art is just much less personal and worse for the environment. Throwing together a few silly photoshopped stills with the characters bouncing around as they talk like you said will probably take longer and look worse but it gives the segment much more personality and fun than any perfectly smooth AI thing.

Hey, first of all, the Lucifer Valentine and all the other videos are incredible and I think you're one of the most underrated and most talented content creators online. I also noticed the breathing on this video, it was less intense on the other ones. I just accepted it, but it is a valid point of feedback. I'm a vocalist and also struggle with breathing when recording vocals. Sometimes I edit it out, but what singers oftentimes try is to learn the technique of breathing to the side so it's not directly into the mic. It does take some time for it to feel natural. Learning breathing techniques that singers use also might help with the amount of air you have to talk and to take targeted breaths.

My 2 cents: I as an artist myself don't have a problem with using generative AI. Me and other colleagues of mine use it as well for quick jobs that AI just does not do worse then we did in order to take the advantage on the market, lower our prices and stay competitive - and I'd advise any artist to implement it, too. While I can see the argument, the fight against it is a lost cause, which should be obvious. I feel your use in the video is perfectly valid, as it gets the point across and it helps you in your scheduling of things, too, as it is just way faster then working and waiting for an artist. That being said, there are and will be situation where you'll need one and that it's also valid to argue for not using generative AI. But not in the way you used it here.

Well the thing is if you use AI for code and it works for what you need it to that's alright, and people who code every day will laugh at the inefficiency of the code it produced but it still works for what the person needed it to do. Art is the same way. AI is good for quick uses but I'd never hire a chatbot to do wedding photographs, a portrait or any serious design, just maybe to animate quick things that don't require any real talent because they are the standard of novice ability. Many artists will have to up their game, but I'm sure the ones who really cared and learned how to make people think will still survive.

I guess I’ll be the lone voice here and say I’m not a fan of generative AI. Generative AI is having a major effect the livelihoods of folks in the production industry at just about every level, but especially graphic designers and animators. I’m sure there are plenty who would be happy to collaborate with you just for the experience and exposure alone. As someone in the industry, I truly appreciate how often you mention in your videos that you want to pay editors who work on your videos. As you explored in your Bansky video, the way people view and appreciate art and artists is greatly shifting. Possibly evaporating. Unless we want everything to be homogenized into a familiar and comfortable pastiche of plagiarized “content”, artists need to support each other, not step over their heads. Just my two cents. Hey Ben, First of all, I would like to thank you for your work, be it scientology, 12 tribes, Mcaney Manor or now Lucifer Valentine. All of these movies involve risky and hard work. Your commitment is unique and what you do is important. I have the utmost respect for what you do. As for the criticism you receive: I think it's an enormous shame that many people in the comments don't even begin to engage with your work. Whether you breathe loudly or use AI shouldn't be that relevant and anyone who listens to you and watches your videos carefully should understand that the means for some luxuries are not available. For my part, I was very happy about the animations because it makes the videos a bit livelier and I see it as an upgrade. I've been watching your videos for a few years now and I get very excited every time something new comes along, but I belong to the group of silent viewers and don't comment (I should change that...), and I think you have some of those viewers too. Please do what you like, what satisfies you and what you feel comfortable with. Comments are often loud opinions, but many people appreciate your work exactly the way you do it, even if those people are quieter. Take care of yourself.

I personally do not support AI usage and think it presents serious, ethical questions, especially when it comes to artwork. But at the same time, I see videos of YouTube creators using ChatGPT to create code for projects. They are working on all the time and I’ve never heard anybody complain about that

Echoing what others are saying, I think you should take the comments with a grain of salt. People are only commenting on the breathing cuz they think they're being funny by pointing it out. Same with the twitter thing. As for the ai art, if you truly have no other choice due to finances, at least put a disclaimer in a text box or something that says it was made by AI so it doesn't seem like you're trying to pass it off as your own. The gore also looked like old school gore effects to me. It was just the filters ect overlaid. I think he’s similar to mckamey with the contracts and the fetish content, but instead He’s using amateur “actors” who can’t get decent jobs or amateur porn “actors” who are vulnerable and have past trauma that are using substances and who already have mental health issues and have already been through the Hollywood machine. Haha yeah I know what you mean 🤣 some people say the breathing is annoying. You can fix it with plug-ins like Waves DeBreath, iZotope RX Voice De-breath or Accusonus ERA De-Breath (they work in Audition, Logic, Pro Tools etc). But honestly, even just a pop filter or a bit more distance from the mic 🎙️ makes a big difference. Personally I don’t even notice it that much lol.

i noticed the breathing but didn't really care, if you wanna try out a diff mic i run the hyperx quadcast 2 lately and find it massively better than what i used to have but i was using a shitty $30 offbrand mic before this, maybe some sites have a return option too if it's not any better, ik the one you have is actually more valuable i think so i'm surprised it's filtering isn't that great but yea if not alg, otherwise pop filters are good for that sorta stuff often and way cheaper lol

Hey Ben! Big fan here. I want to preface this by saying I really appreciate the work you were attempting to do for survivors of the apparent abuse by Valentine. Really sounds like some sick stuff and it is trademark grooming/love bombing & it is...abominable. WARNING - S.A. mentions below. I truly appreciate you considering their experience and actually valuing what they wanted to do in situations, getting advice from others etc as to not risk causing further harm when you were unsure. With that preface out of the way, I did want to bring up your comments at 1:30:20-ish mark. You were referencing Andrew Callaghan, who based on his own account, denies the rape charge but has previously admitted & since apologized for coercing/pressuring one of these women into sex after she abundantly made it clear she was not interested. So like, when it comes to talking about MONEY GRABS - I think it can be a slippery slope. I try to not get in the head of a survivor (based on their testimony) and assume or say "why now" - "oh, it's just for the money" - etc etc. Tbh - it's a multi faceted issue - and I'm not really all that concerned if someone wants financial compensation from their awful experience (if it is true) - after multiple allegations against him, and the trail of stink following him in this regard, I give like 0 room to really care if a victim chooses to rush the stage, steal the microphone and scream at his film premiere or or they want to share their experience anonymously. Keep in mind that I am fully aware that sometimes men and women lie about these things (as disgusting as that is - and how irreparably damaging that can be to someone who DID NOT do anything wrong. People lie. Absolutely. We know sometimes ppl dump coffee on themselves and say "the barista threw it at my face. Now pay me." Lol I don't even know much about that situation with Callaghan, and I know a lot more about how you care about folks who have gone thru some tough stuff & so ive been a huge fan of what you're actually doing (as I mentioned earlier) The video was fire, the commentary was a great touch. If you or anyone else wanted to chime in with thoughts, this is far from a hit piece I just wanted to bring some friendly nuance and also inquire in case I'm misunderstanding something. Feel like the dialogue can all be helpful in our culture as we're trying to listen to survivors and get away from the tabloid'y perspectives and daily gossip most of us are regularly involved in. The Diddy case brought that all right to our front door in a super loud way, and that wasn't the first time. Anyway. ✌🏻

Hey Ben, I'm an audio engineer and I may be able to help you with you breathing "problem". Basically what you wanna do is add what's called a 'gate'. It's an audio tool that takes in a loud signal, while not letting quieter sounds below a certain threshold pass. This is quite a common feature nowadays with AI and can be done with people's phones, but if it's not in your workflow I'd check whatever your video editing program is, under your audio tools. You could also manually fade them out but that'd be hell for a video this long
