[Edit 3rd June]
Added a new version of Brian's outfit
-----------
As the situation becomes clear, the third-class passengers gather in front of the bars that allow them access to the deck. But the Titanic's crew won't let them out, waiting for first and second class to occupy the lifeboats before letting them through.
Frustration grows; there's no time to waste, the situation is delicate, and every second counts. Brian, enraged, loses his patience, and seeing that it's useless to convince the crew, he and a few other men try with all their might to break through the bars.
----
As I previously said, as much as I love this trope, third-class locked down on the Titanic, there's little to no proof that this really happened. Some third-class passengers testified that they found locked gates but overall they were able to access the deck, the biggest difficulty they found was the lack of indication on how to access it. Third-class was like a maze and there was little to no indication on how to access the boat deck.
The boats were on the top deck, which was the first-class deck. So, to access it from third class, you had to find your way to second class and then first. Basically, you had to find your way to the grand staircase from third class.
