Several In AEW Told Bobby Fish's AEW Deal Not Being Renewed

Bobby Fish's time with AEW may be coming to an end.

Fish has been missing from AEW programming in recent weeks, and the reason for that is now clear. We're told that Fish's contract is coming up, and he will likely be finishing with the company when it does, with the deal not being renewed. Fish last appeared on the August 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, when the Undisputed Elite returned. Fish, Adam Cole, and Kyle O'Reilly betrayed the Young Bucks to seemingly launch some sort of program, but they haven't been seen since.

Fish made his AEW debut in 2021 on the October 6 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he unsuccessfully challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship. He subsequently signed a deal with the company and faced top names like Bryan Danielson and CM Punk. After a brief singles run, he aligned with Cole and the Young Bucks before O'Reilly arrived on the Holiday Bash episode of Dynamite in December. Since then, he has competed in several matches alongside O'Reilly, in addition to a few singles matches. He has been sparingly in recent months, perhaps in part due to injuries to both Cole and O'Reilly. He last wrestled for AEW at the July taping of AEW Dark: Elevation. Fish has been taking bookings on the independent scene; he defeated Yuya Uemura at DEFY Doomsayers on August 20.

Prior to his arrival in AEW, Fish was featured as a member of the Undisputed Era in WWE NXT for several years before he was released in a cost-cutting move on August 6, 2021. There, he won the NXT Tag Team Championship twice. Before that, he wrestled for ROH and NJPW; he is a three-time ROH World Tag Team Champion and a two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, among other accolades.

We've reached out to AEW and Bobby Fish for comment.

One thing that hasn't been clear in the different reports and if someone could clarify for me, I would really appreciate it. Is Bobby's contract not being renewed and he won't be on TV for the rest of his deal? Or is his contract up now and he's done now? Cause I would figure they would try to rush UE vs Elite before he leaves no?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. Maybe Fish wants to return to WWE as a trainer, as a wrestler for WWE/NXT, or maybe both. I believe he mentioned in an interview he was thinking of being a coach at performance center.

after AEW, I dont see where he could go. I know he speaks high of Triple H but I will say Bobby Fish is 45 and without the rest of Undisputed, he would kind of flounder in WWE if brought back. He's not a big act. He's a Big Fish in a bigger pond with giant fish. Maybe he should stay on the indies and wrestle all over the place. Thats all I can think. Unless he wants to transition into a Producer role, I don't see him thriving in a big company and being used well. He only got traction in AEW cuz of Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly.
