Trevor Murdoch Notes: NWA, Getting Booted From TNA, WWE

Fightful spoke to NWA Worlds Champion Trevor Murdoch ahead of NWA 74 this weekend.

Murdoch told us he learned shortly before winning the NWA Worlds Title that it was going to happen, but wasn't told from the start of his angle with Nick Aldis. He said that he wasn't going to believe it was happening until it actually happened. He spoke very highly of Nick Aldis, and said that he restored prestige to the NWA Worlds Title.

We also asked Murdoch about his brief TNA run in 2009. He said that he was never under a contract with the company. However, what led to the end was a match in which he stated to Terry Taylor and Taz that he didn't want his opponent to kick out of his flying bulldog finisher. He said that Taz seemed okay with it an understood, but Terry Taylor thought he was politicking. However, Murdoch's stance was that he didn't have a contract with TNA, and his finisher was something that he wanted to protect for outside bookings.

He also spoke about his 2011 WWE dark matches. He was pegged for a "Val Venis role" where he'd work as an enhancement talent to pushed talent and work with young talent. Triple H had called to bring him in, but just a couple of weeks later, Johnny Ace cited budget cuts and didn't bring it in.

Murdoch credited Dave Lagana for bringing him in to both Ring Ka King and NWA.
