Storyboard process

I’m playing myself all over again.

This is the rough storyboard for my next comic, Joey and Brian’s first time together and this is how I work my comics.

Probably there’s a better way to do it but basically, I first make a very rough storyboard with the scenes and angles as how I imagine it (the first four photos). Simultaneously I also work on the script, thinking of the dialogues and all. (Oh! Btw, the first storyboard is read right to left, the reason is I’m left-handed and if I worked in the traditional left to right I would be covering the panels with my hand and it would make it difficult to keep with the pace of the story.)

Once I’m done with the whole scene I start preparing the storyboard in a comic page format. In this stage, I might add or remove panels depending on how the composition is going or if I consider I should dilate a moment.

From here I will start working on the sketch of the pages on my iPad, which I hope I’ll start doing soon.

Still, I have to work on commissions so I’ll see how I organize myself.

Overall I think it’s a messy process and yet it works for me. At least I managed to complete three comics since last December and I hope to complete this one too. Probably I’ll do the same as for In a whisper and sell it through Gumroad.

So, here is why I might take a bit longer on posting new stuff.

Please, let me know if you want more details of the process.
