AJ Styles had pitched big name to face him for WrestleMania in the past

This year he faced Edge. In 2020, he helped retire the Undertaker. However, those plans of his didn't always come through. He's spoken openly about his desires to face Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania, and even pushed WWE to make HBK an offer. That wasn't the only big name he's pitched, however.
Styles told Fightful recently "Well, the last person I tried was Triple H. I didn’t get him. I don’t know who the next guy is or if there will be another one. Now we’ve got the younger talent coming up. Maybe I’m the match that they would like to have. I would like to have some good ones before I retire. Who knows? I don’t know who’s going to be next. None of us do. We’ll just have to see what happens."
Triple H has since retired and indicated he won't return to the ring.

I wish they did HBK vs AJ at Crown Jewel instead of that horrible tag match

2022-08-03 01:56:17 +0000 UTCI don't see Trips in the ring ever again. He's got gear inside his body now. I wish AJ vs Shawn could happen but I can't see that either. That DX Bros of Destruction match being Shawn's last doesn't sit right with me. I'm glad I was at the go home for it. Wife almost got donked in the head by a DX glow stick.
