When Austin Theory found out he'd be facing Brock Lesnar at MSG

On March 5, much speculation went down over who would face Brock Lesnar at Madison Square Garden for the WWE Title. Things were kept secretive and close to the vest even leading up to the match backstage. Eventually, Theory came out and lost to Lesnar in about 90 seconds. If you felt like you were in the dark, so was Theory.
Theory told Fightful that he only found out that he was facing Lesnar midway through the show, about an hour before the match actually happened. He said that there was "Brock Lesnar vs. ----" on the card listed in the back.
Theory told Fightful that he never felt like he was fully called up in 2020, and was always under an NXT contract. He says that one of the members of AOP got injured, and he was only called up to fill in for one of them. At no point during that period did he feel like his call-up was official. He felt like his real run in NXT helped him develop more character and was happy that he got that time with The Way. Even then, the original idea for The Way was just for Theory to serve as a bodyguard for others in the group. However, things ended up working well and the role continued to expand.
In case you wondered, Austin Theory doesn't have a replica Golden Egg, as many have replicas of championships and accomplishments throughout their careers. He noted that when you're working with Vince McMahon, you have to be at your best for every take.
