Today it's my father's birthday, he turns 70 (it's also my brother's birthday but didn't have time to do anything for him) and I drew him General Josep Moragues, a Catalan military from the 18th century who lost his life during the war of the Spanish succession defending the freedom of Catalonia that was lost in 11th September 1714. Actually, the was already ended when he was killed, he was trying to flee because he knew if he was caught he would be executed.
And that what was happened. He was a fierce soldier and the bourbons wanted him dead but not only dead, they wanted to make him an example. They cut his head and put it in a cage, high for everyone to see it, so Catalans wouldn't try to revolt against the bourbons ever again.
And this is why our national day is on 11th September, just to remember what we once were.
