MLW founder recounts MJF asking to restructure his contract.

Much has been made of MJF's contract status, and we got a look at how he's handled this in the past.

When asking those in MLW about the contract he'd signed before coming to Major League Wrestling, it was confirmed he was among the first deals that were signed to the company years ago. As the deal progressed, MJF had felt like he outperformed his Major League Wrestling contract and went directly to Court Bauer to make his case and renegotiate. Court Bauer told Fightful that things went well during and after that talk.

Bauer says MLW gave MJF the raise and believed his points were valid. The conversation was said to have been very professional and easy, and not a difficult decision to come to.

I think it's very different. MLW notoriously doesn't pay well, and AEW has nationwide weekly TV, that has a huge budget. WWE and AEW are much closer than MLW and AEW are.

if thats true its only because employees sign them. I myself choose to work on a maximum of 2 year contracts. I bet on myself to over perform my contract and make more after that time.

Ngl, given that MJF did eventually leave MLW for AEW, you got a point, guys.

Tony has made pretty clear he's willing to pay MJF as a pillar of the company, but in return MJF is going to have to extend his deal. TK doesn't want to pay him then allow him to leave for WWE in 2 years. That makes absolutely zero sense.

Tony is literally on record saying he would absolutely pay MJF as a top guy.

As much as I love AEW, I find it mind boggling that Tony can't be bothered, if it's still the case, to negotiate better pay in the contract for MJF.

Because most contracts are one-sided in favor of the company?

How is it “antiquated” to honor an agreement both parties agreed to? Throwing big words out there doesn’t change the fact that he signed up for this. I’m on MJF’s side .. I’m always on the worker/talents side .. I too think I work harder than what my company offered me as a salary initially but I signed on for this and when the time comes to negotiate I will do just that. It’s business .. not old fashioned or outdated.

I mean sure, with an antiquated mindset. Contracts are bullshit in general, and shouldn’t be a method of payment or employment. It’s outdated, archaic, and shitty. Mjf knows his worth and wants to be paid, nothing wrong with asking for a raise, especially when you kick ass at your job.

Please someone correct me if I’m wrong .. maybe I’m missing something I haven’t been following the story that closely but going forward shouldn’t MJF make sure he’s signing better contracts to begin with. That’s what a contract is .. No company is obligated to pay you more until what you agreed upon is fulfilled. Does he deserve more money? Absolutely but that’s not how contracts work. A lot of extremely talented successful musicians have the same problem when they sign to record labels and then blow up.
