Cody Rhodes update
Added 2022-06-11 20:51:02 +0000 UTCCody Rhodes had surgery this week to repair his torn pectoral muscle, and we've learned a little more about his week.
We're told that WWE was more lenient on allowing him to wrestle the match at WWE Hell in a Cell because the pectoral was torn completely off the bone, and further damage likely couldn't be done. To back up Cody Rhodes' words, he was insistent on working the match, and had he not wanted to, he wouldn't have been asked or required to. Talent we spoke to were already excited that he was coming in from AEW, but were privately applauding the guts he showed in competing in the match.
Although WWE stated that Rhodes was undergoing surgery Wednesday, the original Fightful report of Thursday was correct and confirmed by Brandi Rhodes. Instead, he got into Birmingham on Wednesday to prepare for the surgery. WWE also had him conduct interviews and filmed material for an eventual documentary about the injury, among other things.
Cody Rhodes was back home by the weekend and the surgery was done by Jeffrey Dugas.
Comments
WWE has in the past reported injuries as taking much longer to heal than reality, so when their star returns early, they chalk it up to a miracle recovery. Case in point--John Cena had a MINOR Pec injury, so when he returned 3 months instead of 6 to 9, WWE reported it as a miracle--it was just better PR than medical care.

2022-06-11 21:28:57 +0000 UTCI had the same injury from bench pressing - torn pectoral tendon. Looks gruesome from all the internal blood flow and bruising but not as painful as you would think. I’m sure af not an athlete but 9 months sounds accurate. I had surgery in Feb, did months of PT and was able to deadlift again in December. If he pushes the PT, he might be able to shave a month or two off.
