Added 2022-05-06 12:01:03 +0000 UTCJust before Indi Hartwell left Australia for WWE, MCW ran an angle where Steph De Lander (Persia Pirotta) turned on Indi. Steph tells us that was to play out on NXT TV as well.
Steph says she pitched the angle in NXT, and it was received well. The basis was to be that the two were best friends in Australia, and Indi Hartwell left her behind to chase her fame. De Lander says that as things clicked with she and Indi in NXT, they added Duke Hudson and Dexter Lumis and things went well from there. However, she believes that the plan was to circle back and eventually turn on Indi Hartwell. She believes this would have actually enhanced the story.
Despite the criticisms of the story, she said that she has no regrets and noted that five minute wrestling matches probably weren't going to land her on TMZ.
Both De Lander and Dexter Lumis were released on April 29, and Indi Hartwell and Duke Hudson lightly addressed it on the following NXT with Indi rejecting Duke's advances.
