More on ROH selling to Tony Khan
Added 2022-03-03 01:47:23 +0000 UTCTony Khan has purchased Ring of Honor.
Fightful Select reported last night that a sale of ROH was coming and likely, but didn't hear until after that Tony Khan was in the running. Outside of Khan, Fightful can confirm that multiple overtures were made towards Ring of Honor since 2020 about a potential purchase.
One source indicated to us that they were told recently that "another offer came and Joe Koff and Sinclair wanted to go that direction." Chatter within wrestling really picked up on Tuesday night when higher ups in another wrestling company heard ROH was being sold. Many within WWE had been under the impression that Tony Khan had bought a Japanese tape library that wasn't NJPW, which didn't end up happening.
Talent that is booked for the April Supercard of Honor show was not and have not been briefed as of yet, and learned about it by watching Dynamite with the rest of the world. There were very few people remaining under contract, but they retained PR representative, and had planned dates through the end of the year to tape television. We've not been told whether or not those will continue or if the Sinclair syndication is a part of the deal or not.
Before the announcement, the card for Supercard of Honor was not done, and those on the ROH side told us that they weren't confident that AEW talent would even be able to appear on the show. Obviously that won't be an issue now. Another wrinkle is that IMPACT's Deonna Purrazzo is ROH Women's Champion, and has been scheduled for the show since winning the title.
Jonathan Gresham and Flip Gordon were both backstage at AEW events lately, with Gresham's raising suspicion because it was in Bridgeport Connecticut. He had his own show, Terminus, booked the next night in Atlanta, and didn't appear on Dynamite. His deal with ROH expired the week after Final Battle.
A very close circle knew of this news happening before the announcement, but word had begun to make it's way that Khan would be purchasing ROH on Tuesday night.
Fightful has heard numbers from $20 million, $40 million as rumored sale price numbers, as well as $30 million for 50% prices quoted in the past. We do not know what Tony Khan paid for it yet.
We'll work to get more on this situation.

Nope. They have a show and TV tapings scheduled

2022-03-03 19:05:46 +0000 UTCI really doubt there is any way we still have a ROH promotion. Maybe we get a taped ROH show if syndication was involved but I doubt that. I think at best we get an invasion . For me, it's all about the tape library and hopefully we get AEW added to HBO Max soon!

2022-03-03 19:05:21 +0000 UTCI’m torn on this… it could be great, but it could also be horrible… ROH was in the middle of restructuring with the intent to come back in April… so here’s the problem as I see it… 1. AEW gets ROH with their Sinclair deal, and let’s ROH operate independently of AEW acting as a development fed for them… so we get ROH wrestling and ROH talent that I’m sure would appear on AEW from time to time… 2. They don’t operate independently, there’s no new ROH wrestling and we’re getting less overall…
