Another Top Free Agent Headed To AEW, Per Talent

Matthews has been a free agent since about September, and told Fightful he wasn't quite sure of where he'd land. He's worked a plethora of indies, as well as dates for MLW and NJPW Pro Wrestling, but we haven't heard details on him signing anywhere. Sources within AEW in recent weeks have indicated that there was growing interest and rumblings about Matthews joining the company in some capacity, with some even heard that there were creative pitches made, with another source going as far as to say that creative is already decided. We've not confirmed the latter.
Several talent in AEW have been told that the working plans is to bring in Buddy Matthews, which has been going around since January.
When we spoke to Matthews last year for his first post-WWE interview, he was very unsure of his future and visa status. However, that seems to have already been taken care of as he was released eight months ago and he's still working in the United States.

You could have an absolutely incredible G1 type tournament in that company now. I originally thought The Owen was going to be a young lions type tournament but now I’m really holding out hope for a G1 type format. Have a 2 month tournament where every week across Dynamite and Rampage there’s 5-6 absolute killer singles matches each week culminating at DON.
