More on why WWE coach quit the company
Added 2022-01-31 19:38:00 +0000 UTCFightful spoke to Scotty 2 Hotty, also known as former WWE NXT coach, Scott Garland.
Garland told us that he'd been considering leaving WWE for over six months until it all boiled over, saying he wasn't having fun anymore. He cited a lot of the changes they weren't expecting with NXT, as well as the mass firings as a reason he lost a lot of his joy for the job. Garland also believes that having a limited number of coaches and trainers present doesn't necessarily promote individuality. Garland felt that coaches should have been provided the courtesy of being clued in on releases before they happened, especially since many were their students.
Garland told Fightful he and other coaches were left in the dark about departures, and he didn't know Adam Cole was leaving until after he was gone. Garland thought that WWE should recruit and tryout Broadway performers and theater actors for NXT, but it was shot down by Vince McMahon who said "we are not actors, we react." Garland told us he didn't think Vince McMahon remembered who he was and didn't have any real interactions with him since coaching.
Scotty 2 Hotty also let us know that while he coached, he was not allowed to bump at the WWE Performance Center because he couldn't get cleared. He's open to appearing in the WWE Royal Rumble as a surprise if they'll have him and says he has no ill will against WWE.
A bit of a comical moment, Scotty 2 Hotty said Linda McMahon of all people told him to never take a top rope DDT again after his now-famous WWF Backlash match with Dean Malenko in 2000.

2022-01-31 20:43:03 +0000 UTCJesus, Vince. As though theater actors don't react! Ever heard of improv? The difference is, they have a very developed skill set to use in reacting. What he's basically saying is, "That would require thought. Stop worrying so much about quality and just churn out bulk content."
