Two stars pass on WWE Royal Rumble offer
Added 2022-01-23 20:19:18 +0000 UTCAs it turns out, Mickie James isn't the only IMPACT Wrestling talent that WWE reached out to for the Royal Rumble.
In addition to Mickie, Fightful has learned that several other wrestlers that have been released since the pandemic were contacted for the Royal Rumble. The IInspiration, formerly known as WWE Tag Team Champions The IIconics were offered a spot in the Rumble match, but Fightful sources indicate that they turned down the offer. Cassie Lee (Peyton Royce) and Jess McKay (Billie Kay) are now the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Champions and didn't feel it was the right time to make a WWE return of any capacity because they're happy with their current path.
When we asked within IMPACT Wrestling about the possibility, Fightful was told that the appearance would have been signed off on and approved by the company, and WWE was fine working on a similar agreement as with the current knockouts champion Mickie James.
Also, we've heard that McKay and Lee aren't the only releases over the past two years who have been contacted.

I'm proud of them. If someone releases you, you don't have to do them a favor when they're short handed. Vince would have booked them to get tossed out in two minutes anyway. The Inspiration look like much bigger stars by keeping their dignity.

While it might be good for Micky James...its got to be awkward for others. The next question--will WWE reach out to any women at AEW?
