Alex's SOUR GRAPS: SmackDown 12/3--Present Endeavors

People on Raw and SmackDown keep referring to the talents who were "future endeavored" but one look at WWE's "Present Endeavors" tells us that those that have moved on might be the lucky ones.

Sami Zayn won a Battle Royal last week and his prize was to look like a coward, get beaten up by one guy, and then squashed by a different guy. That was his prize.

No really, Vince. You shouldn't have.

Also, if you don't give us a specific other reason for Sonya to hate Naomi, we're going to have to start assuming it's racism. Please don't make us do that.

A woman gave herself the nickname "2 Pie Toni".

SmackDown sucks.

Everything sucks. Let's talk about it.

I just find that to automatically presume that anything is racially motivated is entirely cynical and uncalled for. That's my perception and the perception of the majority of whom I've spoken too. There may not have been stated reasons, though I'm sure it would be simply chalked up as typical bad writing. Just seeing one is black and immediately claiming it must be racism a touch of Hitchens Razor.

There’s no in-canon reason for Sonya to specifically single out Naomi. Until the writers give us one, the optics are terrible. It looks like a white woman in power discriminating against her black subordinate. A lot of people have told me they’re made uncomfortable by this storyline for this very reason.

As typical, a great episode of Sour Graps. However I've gotta call out one thing that I think is just a bad take. I really feel like the majority of the audience for SmackDown ISN'T interpreting it as "Sonya is a racist". I think that's an overreach because one of the two involved is Black. Theres been nothing to indicate that. The comparison to Triple H and Booker is a a bad faith argument.
