Details behind CM Punk's secret indie appearance in 2019
Added 2021-11-25 19:00:05 +0000 UTCCM Punk is back in the fold of pro wrestling, but the seven year absence wasn't quite what it seemed, as Punk actually did appear on the indies a couple of times under a mask.
One is an instance almost nobody knew about for years, where he was dressed as a druid throwing salt. Another was in Milwaukee on a Silas Young promoted MKE show in 2019, where a masked CM Punk showed up, did a GTS and left. Young told Fightful that Punk had a jiu jitsu tournament near where the show was, which happened to be a venue Punk worked early in his career. Silas had reached out to Ace Steel and Dave Prazak about getting some people on the show who had worked there before the building's imminent sale and shut down. It ended up getting to Punk, who made the appearance without ever seeing or speaking with Young personally. Young said "What am I going to say, 'No, Punk can't get on the show?'"
To our knowledge, it was the only time between WWE and AEW that Punk did a pro wrestling move on a pro wrestling show.
