More details behind creative, backstage reaction to last week's WWE releases
Added 2021-11-22 19:54:41 +0000 UTCDrake Maverick: Maverick was called up to WWE's main roster, and as highlighted by his video that he published minutes after his release, had to have some idea it was coming. Those we spoke to backstage said that Maverick was always willing to make the most of any situation presented to him.
Tegan Nox: Nox was called up and we're told that plans changed for her numerous times along the way. She, among others, were not told what brand they'd be going to, and actually learned that her tag team with Shotzi would be split up on social media.
Jaxson Ryker: Ryker is the one case of all the releases that we're told had an incredible amount of heat. Fightful learned that Ryker largely "laid low" when some of the initial heat died down, but there were many that we had spoken with that took issue with Ryker being the reason that Wesley Blake and Steve Maclin were taken off TV, only to have Ryker return to TV before them. Most expected him to be a part of earlier cuts, and one source in creative said that it was evident that the character wasn't getting over when fans returned, calling it an "uphill battle to get a reaction."

Lol the Ryker issues could’ve saved them selves a TON of time and effort if they would’ve taken those blinders off in the first place.

Maclin is killing it in Imapct, but it feels like such a missed opportunity to take guys who everyone in NXT seemed to love and do nothing with them. They never needed Ryker. And I'll echo others by saying that I hope Tegan and Spud are OK, but it's obvious how thin the opportunities out there are.
