Oil Painting WIP + What I’m currently working on 🎞

Hi everyone,

How’s your Thursday so far? 🧡

It was a beautiful, sunny day here, and also Fat Thursday, so the whole Poland was eating donuts. Such a sweet tradition! I ate only two but huge - one with rose filling and one with coconut 🍩

I continue to work on an oil portrait study, but I'm not used to such a long process, and not afraid to admit - I'm a bit bored with it. Not sure if I’m gonna finish it or leave at WiP stage forever 🫠 I have no idea how painters manage to work on some huge pieces for months. My focus time is worse than that of a six-year-old 😄

Also, the canvas paper I used is not suitable for professional painting (it is better for sketches than for more detailed works) so I decided to buy painting panels. These are wooden boards with a cotton canvas on them. This solution means that the canvas does not buckle (like the paper I used) and does not bend under the pressure of the brush (like stretched canvas). They are also more affordable  than stretchers. Today I primed one of the panels with two layers of white acrylic paint, and after it is completely dry it will be ready to be painted with oil paints 🖌

Meanwhile, I'm working on editing the tutorial you voted for in the last poll - "How to render skin tones with colored pencils". I’d like to share it with you on Monday 😊

Have a lovely Fat Thursday if you celebrate it and if not, have a sweet day anyway! 😊

Hugs,

Gaby

Lol in Australia we have Fat Friday 🤭💖✨️

I have some experience with still life studies and I like it a lot but somehow I don’t “feel” this study. Some drawings are just made to be unfinished but I don’t say I gave up on it already 😁 Maybe just need a break

Hi Gaby, I think the painting is coming out really well for you, it would be a shame to leave it unfinished, but I understand you... I too - often - leave the works unfinished, but for me it's more a problem of "excessive perfectionism". We're all a bit Michelangelo and leave the works unfinished 😂 But really... complete it, because the result is good. Were you already familiar with the oil technique? Or are you just learning it? I see it even more difficult than gouache and watercolor 🥲
