SNEAK PEEK - My first portrait study made with Polychromos ✍🏼 for this month’s Tutorial Video 🎬🤹🏼‍♀️

Hi everyone!

Thank you for voting for the reference to my new portrait study. You picked number 2 🥨 This time I decided to try drawing with Faber-Castell’s Polychromos for the first time 🍭 I hope you’ll enjoy the process.

I find it almost impossible to show the true colors of my colored pencil portraits which is awful and nowadays my room is bright for like a two hours in the morning, but I hope I’ll manage to edit the video properly 🥲 🌥

Few words about the differences between Prismacolor Premiere Soft Core (that I used so far) and Faber-Castell’s Polychromos:

🌸 TIP HARDNESS: Prismacolors are much softer. They’re wax based so the feeling on the paper is super creamy. Polychromos on the other hand are much more precise and harder to break. They’re still pretty soft and pleasant to use.

🌸 COLOURS: I think Prisma are more pigmented and vivid but Polychromos have more subtle, pastel shades. I think it’s a bit easier to mix colors, that match to each other, with Polychromos.

🌸 BLENDING AND ADDING LAYERS: I think that Prismacolors are better for quick sketches because adding too many colors in one area creates kinda like unpleasant, wax surface. Polychromos are better for drawings that have many layers and they don’t loose their freshness after blending few colors.

🌸 ERASING: Polychromos are winning this without a doubt. I could precisely erase small elements even from few layers of blended colours. With Prisma I could erase only some parts of the initial sketch made with a light colour.

These are the main differences I can see so far but I’m sure I’m gonna practice more with Polychromos now ☺️

I hope you like Willow with rainbow hair 🌷

Take care! 🧡

Gaby
