Pausing the Patreon indefinitely

Hi Patrons,

Hope you had a good new years!

The TLDR of this post is:

• I need a break from video making so I’ll be pausing this Patreon indefinitely.

• I’m not sure how long I need a break for.

• I’m very appreciative of all your support over the years!

The longer version is I’ve just lost a bit of the spark for video making and generally find it a far more stressful process than it should be. I recently took a break and went back to uni thinking it would reinvigorate, but after my first study period all the same feelings around making these videos remain.

I don’t think brute forcing myself through is the way forward, I’d wind up being more stressed and releasing worse videos. Instead, for my own sake, I’ve decided that at minimum I need a long, deliberate break. Few things seem more awkward than a passionless retro video game YouTuber!

While this is all a tad sad, I’m actually rather happy with my personal life right now and I'm excited to move into a new chapter. I’ve just been doing this YouTube stuff for a super long time now and I need to step away from it. I started making game reviews on my channel in 2012, and before that I was making stick figure animations and uploading them in 2007 which is wild to think about now. How could I even have sentient thoughts back then, let alone make videos?

So a better note to end this post on is gratitude. I am so incredibly thankful for your support for me and this whole thing. I’m super proud of the last near-decade of videos, and I couldn’t have made them without all of you. Thank you thank you thank you.

To get in the weeds a bit with what’s happening:

• I’ll be pausing this Patreon every month, so no regular payments will go through at the end of each month.

• New Patrons will be able to join, but I’ll put up multiple big disclaimers with links to this post.

• Anyone who just joined and would like a refund shoot me a message, sorry you joined at such an awkward time!

• After some time, likely a few months from now but I can’t be sure, I’ll reassess how I feel about all this and what to do with the Patreon. I’ll keep you all updated when that time comes. For now, I just need time off for clarity’s sake so I'll keep it paused.

• I'll still be active on socials/Discord.
