Doug Lab: Pounding the Pavement with Johnny Pemberton

Good horning. So, I had this idea for a while to wear a GoPro and hang out with a friend who can show me some cool stuff that they're passionate about. Since Johnny is a master gardener, I thought he'd be the perfect candidate for episode one of "Pounding the Pavement." Is this still a Doug Lab or a new show? No one knows. Anyway, have you done anything fun this summer? I went to the Kern River and it was amazing.

Sweet vid Doug! My summers been kinda lame, I've been getting into mushroom foraging though but have yet to find a good patch of em!

Matt Torres

I loved your herpetological SMACKDOWN. This is beautiful id love to hangout with the two of you like this. Keep nurturing your friendships just like Johnny nurtures his plants <3

This was fuckin dope thanks for sharing Doug! I particularly enjoyed both the slice of life aspect and the practical real world information shared.

I throughly enjoyed this Doug 🪴🥒 Johnny is so informative, I never knew he had such a green thumb! I’ve only known Johnny through his comedy, some of my favorite episodes of the American art and culture review podcast are the ones with Johnny! So it was fun seeing this side of him 🌱 with peace and love please make more vlogs Doug pound!

100% agree about the composting - it's so cool to just see how quickly stuff breaks down!

brian o’neill

peel, chop and freeze em. use for smoothies :)

Going to fertilize my freaky looking cucumbers asap. Thanks boys.

Nice!

Oh brother am I ever old, enjoyed this way too much… I live in south FL and have some bananas that came with the yard. This variety must not have a mother/child situation as they all produce fruit, always. After harvest I just chop it at the base and they keep coming back. Magical. The problem is what do you do with 100 bananas that will turn in 4-5 days! The reason we only eat cavendish is their shelf life.

This was like watching a father teaching his baby boy about nature. Now get Chef John to teach Doug how to cook something other than Mr. Noodles.

Doug you are a legend of the (nature) realm - more of this please! Would love to be pottering round the garden in the California sun. Have you heard of the tv gardener Monty Don (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1esAoOxj0o) - relaxing stuff... He has a BBC programme in the UK called 'Gardeners World' ✌🏻

Joss Hum

This was neat! +1 for Gish and Rhinoceros

Stingray

Pemberton droppin' that knowledge! I remember on Doughboys he taught us all to make the perfect Oven fries. Thanks Doug this ruled!

Johnnee

Love this! I really like how you mixed in some questions about current projects like Fallout and Mermaid. Would be really cool to see an ongoing series like this where you interview actors/musicians/comedians etc… and talk about their projects while they show off their hobbies. Like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but not lame.

Jimbalaya

Do you have outdoor cats?

Douggpound

Looking forward to watching this. Get Johnny on Office Hours!

Nice! I have the concrete fish, clovers (seed fall or spring) taking place of my back lawn, worm composter, tomatoes I thought were fine with fertile soil but really should have continued to fertilize. I have only gotten about 8 tomatoes off 6 plants. Then I got tomato bugs and brought some to the county bug department where he told me I really should add fertilizer all summer. Next year : ) Orange blossoms are my favorite fragrance in the garden. Also I put in a couple artichokes about 5 years ago and they come back every spring. My front yard is pretty similar with the drought tolerant landscape. For some reason I have no lizards, lots of butterflies. Fun stuff.
