349. Tim Releases the Epstein List (Audio)

The long-awaited, much anticipated return of Tim Heidecker to the Office Hours compound did not disappoint with the exclusive release of the Epstein List, along with some heartfelt tributes to fallen legends Ozzy Osbourne and to a lesser degree Hulk Hogan. PLUS Doug's Gaze the Graph game, a cringe-filled look at Billy Joel's appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random, a look at weirdo Eric Weinstein and lots more of YOU on zoom and the hotline.

For over a decade, I have been working on the implementation and administration of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the ACA, also known as “Obamacare” for a state-based health insurance exchange. Tom from Philly’s call touched me both personally and professionally. The cuts and changes that Tom alludes to, as they stand now in the Big Shitty Bill and the CMS Final Rule, will have a devastating effect in the US in 2026 and 2027, causing millions to lose coverage due to unaffordable insurance rates and millions more in not being qualified and disenrolled for Medicaid, as well as other needless new administrative hurdles to remain enrolled, like re-enrollment every 6 months and other new job requirements. This will result in unnecessary deaths of Americans, solely by Republicans, so that billionaires can have more tax breaks. It’s really that simple. Anyone saying otherwise is either lying through their teeth or dangerously misinformed. The healthcare system is far from perfect, but going backwards and undoing more than a decade of progress seems to me like a huge political liability. There are currently Republican Senators and right wing economists issuing major warnings of these cuts and the dangers to mostly rural healthcare, and mostly to their own constituents. There is still time to act and I hope the Republicans at the very least extend the enhanced premium tax credits, but I’m doubtful that they will even offer those small breadcrumbs to hard working Americans. To Office Hours: thank you for your continued advocacy and in beating these, to use Tom from Philly’s term, “right wing ghouls” over the head with your comedy and allowing the space for him to tell his story. Access to healthcare is a human right–act now and rise up. To Tom from Philly, if you read this, good luck to you and continue to tell your important story.
