SHOW FLOW! LYNCH!
Added 2025-01-18 16:16:25 +0000 UTChey folks, I wanted to alert anyone attending The Slipping Away tour starting this Wednesday, I'm REVOLUTIONIZING THE SHOW FLOW!
if your ticket says the show starts at 8, THE SHOW STARTS AT 8!
The night will flow like this:
Tim & The Very Good Band Set 1
THEN the special guest! Kyle, Neil or Doug or Secret Surprise Guest...
Then I will come out and do a little solo set with a mix of standup and some solo funny songs on the piano.... Then the band will trickle back out for our second set.
I don't want anyone to miss a second of the show - we've been rehearsing and sounding great... totally refreshed set list from previous tours... and I have some tricks up my sleeve to make it an unforgettable night ... I don't know why you'd want to skip these legendary "openers" but I know how it is for some folks - I don't want to show up toooooooo early... but this time it's SERIOUS. It's a SERIOUS MESSAGE! Get there with enough time to visit the merch booth ;) Of course if you were wise enough to get the VIP Package you'll be there with plenty of time and a wonderful memory of meeting me with a picture for proof!
OK?
Vancouver: I think the show is starting a half hour early... stand by for official word, but we got this message LATE in the game that the owner is having some kind of late night club experience. JP, discovered it when the production manager was going through the details and offhandedly remarked an early start time. Naturally, shit hit the fan and everyone got into it but there doesn't seem very much I can do outside of literally suing them or moving to another venue which doesn't seem viable... but i will loudly and proudly tell everyone that The Hollywood Theater owners are RATS.... bad bad people! Luckily it's a Saturday and hopefully won't be too disruptive for you to get there a half hour early.
Today, I remain unpacked and totally mentally unprepared to leave home for 5 weeks. I did buy some warm looking gloves at Dick's Sporting Goods last night as pretty soon we're going to be in the heart of the frozen tundra.
OK, Let's keep warm together. If you haven't gotten tickets yet BUY THEM HERE!
I've been enjoying all the David Lynch stuff popping up all over social media. It gave me an opportunity to reflect on his impact on my life. I wrote this on instagram yesterday if you missed it:
Feeling a tremendous debt of gratitude to the creative life of David Lynch. I remember Eric and I seeing “Lost Highway” in college and being blown away and a bit obsessed… Any time our work veered into something that made you uncomfortable or queazy - that was coming from our love of Lynch… Casey & His Brother, Morning Meditations, Cinco Boy, Mobin… Anytime that drone music came in… Even recently with G. Amato’s performances on On Cinema… It’s all coming from that same dark and confusing place David created. He was a god and I hope he’ll be considered one of the most important artists of his generation. Peace and Love to his family.
And get ready for a shocker... YESTERDAY marks the first time I've seen Eraserhead! I think so anyway. I must have seen clips or scenes before but I really don't think I've ever sat down and watched the whole damn thing before! I'm so embarrassed! Naturally, I loved it and was much funnier than I thought it would be... I'm listening to the David Lynch memoir Room To Dream and it just covered that whole period and it's pretty remarkable how he made it over 2 years (or more?) and apparently it still remains a secret how he made that baby monster. Truly remarkable shit, man.
That's all that I have for now, except to say this city is still hurting and will continue to hurt for a long while. The repercussions are endless... my friend Charlotte's dad has an Italian restaurant near the beach, and while it was spared, the surrounding area is a ghost town now. Our friend Erik Paparazzi's daughter's school burnt down... another friend's school burnt down. Parents are scrambling to figure out what to do... When the news falls from the headlines, there will be a lot of people still looking for help. We matched all your super chat money from last week and sent it to Letters to Altadena / please consider making a small donation there if you can swing it.
Peace and Love to you ALLLLLL See you out there!

2025-01-20 18:09:43 +0000 UTCThank you for this, seriously. When I see 'Show at 7:30', I assume 8:30, earliest. Last show I went to started 2 hours after the doors. Now I know The Very Good Band DOES NOT mess around like that. See you in Vancouver!

2025-01-19 16:13:21 +0000 UTCI’m sad to say the only work of David Lynch’s that I completed was his version of Dune, and I thought it was pretty good. I’ll have to try his other works again especially considering his huge influence on you, Doug, and Vic. Embracing the uncomfortable and absurd does take a little bravery being “out there”, and I’m glad David Lynch helped inspire you all to get out of the mainstream box. And wow, it’s almost Tour! I’m actually kinda glad you outlined the show since my sister would have been so annoyed at my shock and excitement about your solo part--and of course being at the first sold out show of Tour doesn't help 👍 Serious question since it’ll be hard for me to Zoom in this year: Last tour, you were on stage once for Comedy and once for Music, hence Two Tims. Well, this tour, since you’re on stage once for Music, once for Comedy (+ Music), and then =again= for a little bit more Music, then does that make this technically 2 ½ Tims? FINALLY, a 2 ½ spinoff I can actually watch! 👏 See you there ✨

2025-01-19 03:31:58 +0000 UTCSo glad you loved Eraserhead! I watched it again recently and had so much more appreciation for it. I’m also planning on listening to Room to Dream next, still can’t believe he’s gone 🫤

2025-01-19 00:09:52 +0000 UTCroom to dream is great! read it when it came out and then started listening this week. david’s parts of the audiobook aren’t just the book read verbatim which is nice - it’s very natural and tangential. he really was the sweetest, brightest guy.

2025-01-18 21:16:51 +0000 UTCI just rewatched Lost Highway last night and was wondering if that was the specific film Tim and Eric drew from in regards to the Lynch influence. Definitely some moments where I was cracking up imagining it being an awesome show skit.

2025-01-18 17:27:38 +0000 UTCEraserhead production indeed went on for way longer - about 5 years according to Lynch (1971-76). He kept running out of money, which is why it stretched on for that long. AFI, where Lynch was a student, lent him an abandoned horse stable and he made it into sets and a backlot. Lynch was even living/sleeping there for a couple years during this time.

2025-01-18 17:12:50 +0000 UTCIs there a way to “upgrade” a ticket to VIP, or do I need to try to buy a new VIP ticket and sell the regular, very sad one?

2025-01-18 17:09:00 +0000 UTCNow I know (better) why Casey & His Brother was a direct hit for me :>

2025-01-18 16:41:08 +0000 UTCDang! I hope we get to witness these shows in the UK - sounds fun! Good luck with the tour! Also for anyone looking for more Lynch, the doc ‘David Lynch: The Art Life’ is a really nice portrait of him in his studio making paintings and musing about life. A true original!

2025-01-18 16:38:47 +0000 UTCThank you, Tim. My daughter and I will see you in Philly!

2025-01-18 16:35:29 +0000 UTCOh and when I was around 18 or 19, I would fall asleep to Eraserhead every single night lol. It’s buried somewhere in my subconscious. Definitely check out his early short films collected also. From the very beginning, all of Lynch’s charisma and otherworldliness and his distinct artistic voice was present. Ugh such a loss. Thankful for the memories. All life is temporary, what lasts is consciousness 👽🙏

2025-01-18 16:32:54 +0000 UTCI love this show format! We get two full band sets and to laugh in between! Genius! And duh I got the VIP! See you in Nashville! And Lynch’s passing has been devastating for me. I feel like the King of the Weirdos is gone and I’m feeling a little more alone in the world. I have so many core memories of my life connected to his art and experiencing his creativity and his words sincerely changed me at a profound level. I have been crying for three days. It’s cool to see so many people affected by his work. There will never be another David Lynch. We are so lucky to have existed at this moment to all witness and share his dreams. We have to keep dreaming. Stay weird ❤️👽🙏☯️

2025-01-18 16:26:50 +0000 UTCIs the set list in stone or still in flux? Excited to have fun and laugh. G Amato is one of the strangest in the cavalcade of stars. His Christmas song is one for the books.
Jim D.
2025-01-18 16:25:32 +0000 UTCJust want to say that I have always felt G Amato was channeling some of the cursed vibes of one of the men in suits in various unsettling rooms in Mulholland Dr so I'm glad you confirmed Lynch was an inspiration, really well done!
