"How Can I Help" You Say?

Hey friends it was great to back on the air and laughing with you all for a few hours the other night.

Made it back home from Palm Springs yesterday afternoon. The sky was blue but you could feel the poor air quality after a little while outside... Back to the masks for a while! Lots of debris and a few large branches down, but no damage so we're feeling extremely grateful and lucky. Still nervously watching the wind forecast, but hoping and expecting the best.

This particular American Tragedy has his close to home for me. Altadena is about a 15 minutes drive from my place and home to some of our favorite hikes and restaurants... but more importantly, more than a few close friends and workmates have now suddenly lost their homes.

Marco Cordero is the cinematographer for the last several seasons of On Cinema - He's brilliantly captured so many funny moments, as well as managed the insane chaos of the annual LIVE Oscar Specials with cool, calm grace. He's a super nice dude with a young one... He's also the Cinematographer for Nathan For You and The Rehearsal... a one of a kind secret weapon!

Gabe Patay  Marco replaced Gabe when Gabe got too busy in the documentary world, but Gabe shot The Trial and Mister America. He also shot a lot of CHeck It Out with Dr. Steve Brule... He's a brilliant shooter with a documentary eye, but a great sense of humor - DPs and cameramen are often who I perform for and getting them to crack is always part of the game. Was always a joy to get a crack from Gabe. He's made Altadena his home for years, raising chickens (the last I heard)

There's a few more but I haven't seen their GoFundMe's yet but will update them if/when they go online.

Jaymee Carpenter - new friend of Office Hours... you can hear his parent's saga on the latest episode of the show in the second half...

Many don't know, and I don't see it widely reported, but Altadena is a historically black community... and so a very helpful google sheet has been going around collating a list of Displaced Black Families

Other ways you can donate:

LA Fire Department Foundation

LA Food Bank

Pasadena Humane Society

General WildFire Relief

Lastly, if you're in the area and have the time and the means, this is a list of ways to Volunteer in person:

In Person Volunteer List

I'll try and keep this post active and updated with information on ways to help... I'll also make it public so it can be seen by the most people.

As you know with any tragedy of this scale there's usually a massive outpouring of help in the immediate wake of the incident but over time, it fades from the news but the people are still picking up the pieces. We'll be here as best we can for as long as it takes.

Peace and Love, T

PS - feel free to share any links or ways to be helpful you think relevant in the comments... but please keep away from any grandstanding, or "hot" takes. It's not the place on this worldwide web for that kinda chatter.

Sucks that a few individuals are sitting on HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS and we have to resort to asking the common man to chip in. Shake my damn head.

Rerun the dreem street ads shirt and donate the profits! Or make a new ads shirt

Nice to see legit ways and links being mentioned. Too many sharpsters out there are trying to take advantage of people's generosity.

KTown for All is a group of volunteers who help the homeless in Koreatown, but right now they're also giving out provisions for fire evacuees: https://www.ktownforall.org/

Thanks for posting Tim! I was trying to figure out ways I could help. It’s so upsetting watching Los Angeles burn and seeing all the displaced people and animals! No matter income status those are still places built with memories, now gone. I’m so glad all of you are okay!

I also just saw this on IG, it's a Google doc where you can let them know what services you could provide to people in Altadena (legal, creative, etc) , either physically or remotely https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScFZn5VVEipITTW5LDNG_3rzeSEGspiLl4t7eefT6kL5dFGSQ/viewform?pli=1

Thank you,Tim

I agree with Jonathan, actor or anyone in the arts doesn’t equal rich or wealthy. Everyone’s circumstances are different. I’m married to a financial advisor, before I knew him, I pretty much thought if you owned your own home, you were wealthy. I really had a very basic understanding. You can be more stable financially in a more simple set up. Anyway, my view is, that if you hate on wealthy people, it’s you that has a problem with materialism. A home is a home, no matter the size. I hope everyone affected get the help they need. And I’m so glad to have watched the video and seen you all okay. Praying for LA

Thank you! Makes me think of Scribble as well. I'll check them out.

SELAH may fit the bill. They're a homeless assistance org that Tim has also done fundraising for: https://www.selahnhc.org/

I don't use x so not sure where that goes but the nightmare scenario is trump reducing aid once in office leaving the perfect setting for vultures to come in and buy up properties from exasperated victims. Some stuff like this happened with Katrina and his "Opportunity Zones" plan.

I love Office Hours. It's a bit embarrassing to say but I'm not afraid to say that a podcast is important to me. I like the idea of just being in love with everyone. Just demonstrate love. Constantly. These next four years will allow us to demonstrate great strength and community.

Does anyone know of an organization that advocates for people? I mean helps people sort through forms and steps to take to get their aid? I feel like the stress and trauma can leave some people really disoriented and unable to approach this side of things. I'd like to contribute to something like that too. -> Thanks Tim for posting all of this great information on ways to help!

And because I rarely use X these days, It looks like I didn’t share his whole thread, just the initial post, so I recommend reading the rest of the thoughts he shared too!

i'll allow it! :)

Thanks for sharing Tim. I hope this doesn’t come off as a hot take or anything, so feel free to delete, but the great actor Wendell Pierce shared some historical perspective on the fires versus Katrina, and the aftermath of dealing with insurance hell, and the disparities between what the working class neighborhoods experience versus the more wealthy ones. Tragic for everyone, but he hits on something important here: https://x.com/wendellpierce/status/1877567282253377993?s=46&t=kzdogStFn4Y5VVUvivfrng

Awesome list. Here's the California Fire Foundation: https://www.cafirefoundation.org LA Mutual Aid network: https://hcb.hackclub.com/donations/start/malan Red Cross Relief Donations: https://www.redcross.org/about-us/our-work/disaster-relief/wildfire-relief.html?srsltid=AfmBOoqdhDk1mhsGyOaYZZxvjubYQtuywkp_WoJKlXWhsFTI4d0EFfnt You can also check with the fire department in your area in LA and ask if the firefighters need food/drinks. They've been running low and are accepting provisions, but check if they need them for any given day and whether it's safe to get there. We're all in this together in every sense of the word. This will have impacts worldwide.

Ty for including the humane society 💕

I miss living in LA in crazy. The most wonderful people in the world live there, and please understand that actor does not equal "rich" or "wealthy". These people need our help. I love you guys! I'll be donating, and I just wanted to mention that the MLS (Major League Soccer) is also accepting donations if you're into that kind of thing for LAFC or LA Galaxy shirt. Some percentage of the money raised through that is going to the Red Cross and LA Fire Department. https://www.mlsstore.com/ Love you all. Please stay safe out there.
