Waxa Tour Diary - Day Whatever

Hey folks, sorry I dropped off, but it's a little harder to write every day. I don't have the cozy comfort of the bus to wake up to and am spending many hours in the less cozy back seat of a sprinter van. It's cool though, and I do have lots of time backstage when the other bands are on, and I'll try to get more of these up during those hours.

It's been fun! The show at the Treehouse in Deerfield, MA was a little slice of heaven. It was outdoors, behind the Treehouse Brewery where they had nice, comfortable rooms for all of us to hang out in. They pride themselves on brewing some of the finest IPAs in the Northeast. Unfortunately my pallet doesn't give a shit about that and thinks that all IPAs take like ASS. But they had some fantastic pizzas and everyone was very nice and accommodating.

The band and I were warmed up from Central Park, but I was nervous to be playing for Waxahatchee's audience. But I received a warm welcome... and I think I won most everyone over. My jokes got laughs, and I got people movin' and groovin'. It was a great relief to know this wasn't a disastrous idea.

Right off the bat, I spotted an old friend in the crowd. I knew they were coming, but I didn't except to see him right there in front of me. Tom Gorman had been one of my best friends from first grade until we both left town for college. We lost touch over a girl (nothing terribly dramatic but enough I guess to drop off... and in the days before social media that was pretty easy to do) I spotted him right away because he was wearing our old band The Pulsating Libidos t-shirt! Holy shit. It nearly knocked me out to see it. He was there with his parents who I knew and knew me since I was 7... I got Tom backstage right after the set and we had a very warm reunion. Tom is an emergency room doctor and an artist on the side and I immediately had a strong desire to have him back in my life. We had an easy time, catching up and joking around. I spent some more time catching up with his parents "how's your sister? what's new with your kids, etc etc..." and left to rest my voice, but exchanged numbers with Tom and promised to keep in touch.

It was off to Portland Maine next where we played inside at the State Theater. Not as nice backstage accommodations with a maze of dangerous steps and underground passage ways to get in and out.

I was up first (me and Snail Mail seem to be alternating who gets up there first) But there was already a pretty packed house in their seats and standing up in the well and again we were met with a really nice and warm reception... jokes clicked, band boogied and I think I'm winning hearts and minds.

This post in reference to our song "Nothing" gave me hope that there's some logic in doing this little run:

before the show Ellie, Connor and Matt had a fabulous lunch at Rose Foods, a jewish deli, smoked fish, bagel sorta deal which was extremely wha I needed. Oof, it was good. I even bought a shirt. that's my move on this tour, gonna try and stock up on some good local t-shirts to pander to the crowd a hip up my wardrobe.

Ellie went to the Waxa soundcheck and the rest of us strolled Portland. A pretty day, with sunshine and mild temps she was... I got hoodwinked into buying a donut at a place called The Holy Donut... as it beckoned us: A Potato Donut! A potato donut? what's that? that sounds unique and interesting and something I have to try even though I just had a bagel and matzo ball soup... Well, it turns out a potato donut is just a plain old shitty donut. who gives a shit?

up early and on the road to Accord, NY (and you know I'm making a Honda Accord joke tonight!)

BTW, glad to see you all diggin the Unplugged Ep this week. Lots of fun to just sit around and clown with ma boyz.

More soon...

Hi Tom! There's something special about seeing old friends! Now I wanna hear the Pulsating labitos!

Athena

We were up there for a Felice Brothers tour and while in Woodstock, I said Accord to a local and got politely corrected to, “It’s Ack-Curd”

Steven Meltzer

Portland, ME, Tim. The abbreviation for Maine is "ME". While there, go to Crispy Gai for crazy good Asian wings!! Rose is awesome, OF COURSE

Mars Hottentot

i loved the unplugged episode as well. like game nights, the hang shows are always the most fun to me! peace & love from palm springs.

The Daily Ghost

for an extremely non-shitty potato donut, I recommend the spudnuts at Bootsma Bakery in Lethbridge!

Mary-Anne McTrowe

Wow! What an amazing re-meet-cute! Thank you for sharing. It's so cool to hear about your peers, especially since I'm also a healthcare worker attempting art on the side. It's definitely interesting switching sides of the brain like that. Also, you should consider it your Civic duty to make that Honda joke, Tim. Thank you for your service ✨

lilula9

Rose Foods is a Portland classic! Come back to Maine soon!

Hkrtg

Oh hey dere bub!

Lukas

"Day Whatever" on the short list for next album title

Josh Rachbach

If Tim and the band are looking for a great bagel place when you play Charlottesville next week, go to Bodo’s Bagels on Preston Ave It’s a popular spot, for good reason but shouldn’t be too busy on weekday morning

hagclaims8

Also I gotta know who drew the Pulsating Libidos shirt

Melissa

Nothing might be my favorite of your songs! Glad others dig it as well.

Rick Paton

I also hated the potato donut

Natty Norts

Man I hoped potato donut would be like a potato waffle!! They're the BEST

Hanz

Also, pretty spooky that T wrote Dad of the Year well in advance of earning the title for real last week with that Dodger date. NostraTIMus over here.

EKB

Greatly enjoyed the S. Deerfield show but still kicking myself for not trying to head up front with the other OHL-heads and get some inTIMate TIMe. Alas, I am fated to pine from afar like Young Werther.

EKB

But did you find out how long the Holy Donut has been there?

Maslow

Btw I really love these blogs. My hot take is rose foods has the best bagels outside of NY. Their pastrami-smoked salmon is real good!

Erica

You guys ripped and the moment you recognized Tom was beautiful and magical to witness

Melissa

*sings wet pits to the tune of hot piss*

Joss Humberstone

You always have something cool to share! Thanks for taking the time.

Mary Newman

Looking forward to Accord tonight! Bound to be some wet pits 🤙

Erica

I’ve already watched the Unplugged episode twice, I love it so much. Thank you, Tim.

Angela Castelli

Loved the format of the unplugged show. Goofing on those clips was really funny.

Kyle

* Portland, ME (not MA). Wish I was able to see you there last night! Hope to see you in NH next time you’re around the area!

Freakazoidus Rex

Looking forward to Assberry, Timbus.

JAYDIOHEAD

Hello fellow Mainah??

KD

Yea the state theater is def better for the audience than the act lol. Aim for the Merrill Auditorium next time :p Sorry to hear you got pulled into a holy donut. Things are like a paperweight in your gut.

KD

The Pulsating Libidos… Tim, you’ve been winning hearts and minds since day one <3

Bottlesalts Likes You

Absolutely great show in Portland, ME! My favorite Tim tune was the one about your 🍄 experience. When surveying the audience about who was currently tripping, I was too sheepish to raise my hand. However, many of us were surely grooving!

Lukas

Fun show last night. You handled those mic issues like a pro. Bummed I didn't bump into you walking around Portland. I did the same thing.

mrhargro

It was so meaningful to see TVGB in my home town! I was next to someone who had never heard of you and she liked the band so much she got a set list 🥰

Jillian Mcleod-Tardiff

well see u in asbury tim! keep the faith 🙏 🤲
