Waxa Tour Diary - Day 2

OK, that went well.

I was nervous as hell last night, leading up to the central park show. I hadn't gotten the best sleep and the band had only run through the set once, without Ellie! I was also worried it would be a ghost town out there. Did I promote it enough? Would anyone make the trek up to the park on a Tuesday night? Well I shouldn't have worried as it filled up nicely, probably mostly for Snail Mail, but I felt a fair amount of love out there and I think there was a nice amount of crossover.

I started the set with Well's Running Dry which is a bit of a "naked" way to kick things off and a bit nerve-racking as it's a new one but once I got through that ok, I was off and running and tapping into my muscle memory from the past few tours. It sounded good on stage and as the sun went down I got a nice cool breeze whip up onto me every once in a while. I was loose and cracking jokes that hit pretty well with the crowd. My mom was in the VIP and I got her up onstage to dance with an unknown kid for Backwards and it was all very cute and endearing.

After the show me and our drummer Matt (subbing for Josh on this run) walked with Ellie through the park to her hotel on the west side. (She's staying with the Waxa gang tonight to play The Beacon Theater) Lord was it a pretty walk. What a dang park! Then Matt and I walked down from 75th street through Times Square onto our hotel on 37th st. A nice long summer walk through the city at night (with a slice of pizza stop on the way)   Pretty sweet for a Tuesday!

Today we drive up to Massachusetts and have the night off. Will get to know my new crew. Fresh TM, Sound guy and merch guy. Everyone seems nice enough.

Looking forward to finally getting a good night's sleep which hasn't happened yet. Last night I forgot to do my trick where i put tape up on the smoke detector and the strobe light kept waking me up. Fuckin hell.

Until TIMorrow! ;)

Y’all sounded amazing in Central Park. My buddy and I also had a sublime walk through the park afterward. Spent a good 20 minutes alone in the mesmerizing grace of Cleopatra’s needle, an Egyptian obelisk carved from a single block of granite 4000 years ago. Also took in silluetted sculptures through the back windows of the abandoned Met. Ended up at some hoity toity upper east side hotel bar gulping water and whiskey and wanting to sing hot piss as at the top of my happy lungs but being a good quiet boy until I had sufficiently rehydrated and we could slink our way to that more comfortable boxing dive bar in midtown before my red eye train home. Best Tuesday ever.

Having your mom there AND on stage is totally cheating--of course you'd win the crowd over with something so sweet like that. Really awesome to hear you could still warm people up with your humor, too. Have another good show TIMorrow!! (ugh 😔)

Tim when you go to Portland check out the Eastern Prom to chill, Speckled Ax for coffee and whatever you do, do NOT go to HighRoller Lobster co.

KD

You’ll like the spot in Deerfield it’s pretty nice, looking forward to it!

Sean Toomey

Jeff Franchetti

Band sounded great and vocals were awesome. So good I opened one of capital one’s terrific high-yield savings accounts

Well count me as at least one person was there for you, Tim! I was there standing barricade, for my first show at Central Park, and boy you killed it (as always!) It's always a privilege to get to see you do literally anything live.

Mazzocchi (Taylor's Version)

You guys were awesome!!! A great night was had.

Rick Paton

I love that you brought your mom on stage!

Agreed, sleep mask is a travel essential.

Jacob Kruse

You need a comfy sleep mask, blood. It's a game changer. (Not the Lovely Linda mask.)

My fiancé and I got some weird looks from the snail mail fans when we were singing hot piss at full volume. When we were first dating, I showed her On Cinema, brule, hot piss and she "got it" which only reinforced how i felt. thanks for a great night, got the sense that the snail crowd liked your music. it was also cool to see some families and tourists in the crowd who had wandered in! one of the new songs was especially awesome and the riff reminded me of the cars.

Welcome to MA - try the lobstah roll!

Clay N. Ferno

I got to see some clips of the show last night (thank you Sherri!) and you guys sounded great!

I was standing directly next to Unknown Kid. Before the show he mentioned he wasn’t familiar with Tim and after his friend described Tim as a comedian-gone-musician, he said “oh, so he’s like a Donald Glover kind of thing”. His mind was definitely blown when he came down from the stage. “WHAT JUST HAPPENED???”

Robert Gray

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to sing "The city's hot and it stinks, I don’t care what everyone thinks". Thank you for the Kern River break out. Sounded up and tight all around. Nice.

Jim D.

I was there last night and you fkn rocked!! The band was TIGHT AS HELL and people were really digging it in the crowd. Perfect sound mix too, just a really great set with excellent songs - and as the sun was setting? A perfect nyc summer evening - thank you Tim and the very good band!
