Demos Day

Morning all! A dollar short and a day late! me wife is out of town this weekend and I had my hands full with my children yesterday.

Man what a fun show on Thursday. We missed Vic who had to take a personal day, but I loved both Jane and CarMan! I had a "best of Office Hours guests" mini-reunion last night at Kyle Mooney's birthday party where some of our favorites were there - I got to catch up with and goof around with John Early, Kate Berlant, Nathan Fielder, Kyle of course... Joe Pera... CarMan was there... even Robby Hoffman was there and we had a good and friendly chat about her controversial appearance! It was a lot of fun and lots of laughs but also some good hearty real talk conversation. I'm pleased to be a part of a community that's so full of good people.

Folks, we're about 2 months away from "Slipping Away" dropping. I really don't understand the record industry norm of slowly leaking out the record over months. I just want it out NOW! But I'm a team player and I'm going along with it! We'll have another video out next month and it stars MY DAD! You're going to really like that one.

Leading up to the recording sessions, Ellie came over to help me make some proper demos for the band to learn the songs and so I thought I'd share with you the demos for the songs we've already released, "Well's Running Dry" and "Like I Do."

Personally, I'm a fan of hearing people's demos or early versions of songs. "Take 1's" etc... I have demos for all the songs on the record, plus some songs that didn't make the cut... which I think would make a cool compilation one day if there's ever enough interest. I have them ready to go!

And when we get a lot closer to the release I'm hoping we can arrange for a patrons-only listening party like we've done for the last few records. I can't wait for you to all sit with this one. It's a real journey and I don't think you're ready for it.

Have a pleasant Sunday thank you god bless and good luck, T

Bridge Over Troubled Water demo is better than the studio take. I stand by it!

I relate so hard to the lyrics of "Like I Do" that it gives me chills. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!

Melissa

The new tune is such an ear worm. The chorus has been stuck in my head for days. Can’t wait to hear a full band work up.

this album is going to be a heavy hitter. well may be dry but hei fans the world over have soaked pits (dancing) and wet eyes (emotions). can't wait. pre-o'd! listening to demos is something that I grew to appreciate more as I got patient. kinda like black and white movies, history or fresh buttermilk. Great when it's just raw vibes and makes you wonder how the song would end up without the studio treatment etc. It depends a bit on the level of production that gets added, and it's fascinating to hear Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U vs Sinead's (<3) - not a demo but such a journey from what I'm used to. hard to get away from that comfort zone version sometimes, but the reward can be quite savory. and when my favorite artist delivers that payload of emotional impact in the demo and the master with equal force... *grin* Now that's a rare treat, and a rich one at that!

Love the new songs. I will be at Central Park to see you next week and am rallying a bunch of people.

thanks for all the behind-the-scenes, both musically and comically. I love hearing you fostering good rapport with younger talent. great senpai energy. Really excited at your excitement for the new album! I'll blame the label for making you tease. i wanna ~see~ that dad!

I really don’t understand the modern album roll out these days. For example I preordered a record back in May that won’t be out till October. By that time half the record will be on streaming. Seems odd to me. I’d personally rather hear a song and have the record be out a month or so at most. Idk. Stoked for Slipping Away regardless just a thought about the music industry as a whole

Are you coming to TIFF with the David Gordon Green film?

Enjoyed the Sonora Demos so I’m sure a Slippin’ Away comp would be great too! Definitely up for a listening party! 🎧

The new record is going to be amazing. Everything I have heard I have loved. The new songs you have played live are so good. trippin’ will be a smash! 🍄 A collection of all the demos plus some extra tracks would be so cool

Dan Mulcahy

Thanks for sharing, T! Love the personality coming through these early versions. Booking my Amtrak this morning up for the Central Park shindig

Sounds like a fun party. Hope Kyle had enough smokes on hand for everyone! I’m excited for the record, Tim, thanks for sharing the demos. It’s always fun to hear a song come together, or especially see that realization, like watching Paul put together Get Back, and there’s been recent ones popping up in my IG of Keith figuring out the Sympathy riff, and the Phoenix guys figuring out 1901. Here’s to the magic of music 🍻

Michael Drohan

YES TO ALL OF THIS!!! I want to hear the demo’s and scrapped tracks and a listening party sounds fun! Just please do it on a weekend! Can’t wait to hear the album my dude

Hi Tim, had a chance to listen to "Like I Do" the other day and really enjoyed it. Liked the concept of the "scoreboard" lyrics video as well. Looking forward to the new record. All the best from Buffalo, NY!
