Doug's Tour Diary: Scandinavia (May 7-10 2024)

14 Shows, 10 Countries. Hi friends, I'm back from the whirlwind European tour with Eric Andre. We did so many shows and so much happened that I don't know where to begin so I'll just hit you with some random highlights from the first part which was in Scandinavia. My first time there and I was quite excited. First up, Copenhagen. You've got the adorable buildings and nothing is built up too tall. Very much a small town feel. Everyone is biking and walking about, very charming city.

 Look at this handrail. Very cute.

Couldn't help but be startled by this art piece in a public square. It's called Fuck Q's Park. Imagine the hysteria it would cause if it was installed in a US city. The Danish folks seem to have an atheist darkness and I like it.

 Ok next was Oslo, Norway. Beautiful clean city with stunning architecture and lots of saunas.

Those funky buildings on the water are saunas, we witnessed nearly naked people jumping in the frigid water and going back in.

This kid asked me for my hoodie. I actually had an extra one and I packed too much so I gave it to him.

I was getting dinner with Eric and when he saw these "snake people" he really wanted a photo with them. He invited them to the show and had them hang out on stage! Turns out half of them are from NYC, here for a Mayhem show. Mayhem are a Norwegian black metal band with a fierce cult following. BTW these folks look scary but they were incredibly nice. Eric mentioned this quote he heard which could have some truth to it: "Metal heads are really nice people cosplaying as mean people and hippies are really mean people cosplaying as nice people."

Oh, Eric thought it was funny to tell strangers that he had diarrhea. It was.

After the show we met these guys that make a Norwegian version of the Eric Andre Show. That's what their producer told me. One thing I noticed about every city I went to is that people like to drink and enjoy themselves. They invited me to a bar after the show and handed me a beer when I arrived. I drank it, like a real bad boy.

For many cities, there was little time to explore and Stockholm was one of them. We flew in and went straight to the venue. I had a few hours to kill before soundcheck, so I went to a skatepark. I'm thankful for skateboarding because it's a perfect way to explore the city and get some exercise.

These guys are my distant relatives. I think our grandmas were sisters? Our families have corresponded and visited each other over the years. It was cool that they came to the show!
