Jokermen, Jonny Kosmo as Rolling Thunder Bob Dylan (Office Hours+ Episode 297)

Slap on your favorite Pendleton shirt and grab a cold one (of root beer!) because podcast deep divers the Jokermen (aka Ian Grant and Evan Laffer) are here talking Beach Boys. Then Rolling Thunder Revue era Bob Dylan (aka Jonny Kosmo) sang the Beach Boys classic "Little Honda" with a little help from Bambina, Gracie Horse and our own Vic Berger (57:15), PLUS his own classic "I Shall Be Released" (2:09:28). This week's halftime features the debut of Doug's extended mix of the "Jummies Growling Gummies" jingle with an animated video by Nico Daunt featuring Lela Roy (1:01:20). You got all that?! Now sit back, relax and enjoy!

Showed up for the Jummies, stayed for the Jokermen

Aaron

probably the episode I revisit the most; it got me hooked on the Beach Boys. Really enjoyable discussions all around. 🏖️❤️

d.s

Chomp chomp chompin’ on heaven’s corn lmao

Andrew Engstrom

Such an awesome cover of i shall be released. I've never heard it played like that

Liam deery

Fantastic episode!

Daniel Sparrow

🙄

3 words: Stink, stank, stunk. "The Beach Boys aren't hip anymore." Also, Tim comparing the Beach Boys to Beethoven was so incredible I can't tell if this entire episode is sarcastic or not.

Matt

TM Is definitely still not legitimate. It’s a cult, just watch “David Wants To Fly”: https://youtu.be/G8ArHOdDhR4?si=rm2iekf0KEIo4

Robert Van Vranken

Yet another great episode, although I was secretly hoping someone would bring up Todd Rundgren's surreal story where he and Brian Wilson went to the Troubadour back in 1974 to hear the jazz-fusion guitarist Larry Coryell. Apparently, an agitated Brian, dressed in bathrobe and slippers, jumped up on stage in the middle of Larry's set and started singing "Be-Bop-A-Lula." Incredible.

Ian Robertson

You guys like Brian Wilson? Well check this out https://youtu.be/ThYi8o6pQu8?si=HY110gmEnlGGKsLF

No joke, I attended The Beach Boys and America concert with my parents in Pittsburgh, but I don’t think it was 1990. It was later, maybe 93/94.

Christian

Personally, it was one of my favorites in recent memory

jeff s

you don't! it's good practice to keep those kinds of thoughts INSIDE the brain. or tell your parents. thanks.

Tim Heidecker

gotta admit fellas, this was a rough one!

knee

Killer ep. Love the cover of “I Shall be Released”

Addison Pollock

Jonny Kosmo's discussion on narrative therapy was amazing. I just got my masters in counseling and am working in substance abuse. So it's super cool to see someone on the show discussing postmodern counseling theory and existential unknowing. If I were 21 and hearing that advice, it could've saved some years of wandering. Awesome guests today. Also - we needed about a dozen more "I'm Like Dylan" drops throughout the 'sode, shame on you Victor

Sean M

Should have clarified this was a PRODUCER MATT response 😘

Tim Heidecker

Cool! Didn’t know that!

Joss Humberstone

It’s all good music when OHL and Jokermen scat it out…one of the best episodes yet!

Jackson S

happy for the office hours music channel

marshy

It’s a great song. Written and produced by Brian Wilson. Should also mention that this song from the new Jessica Pratt album lifts the drum part from that song https://youtu.be/QaXe9zAa3r4?si=MmDFepdiQgArMKid

jeff s

“I’ll start BANNING people on Patreon” -T 🫡🤠

Alexander Darko

Well the good news is you have 296 other episodes to tide you over! ✌️❤️✌️❤️

Tim Heidecker

I’m just surprised that the cast of this show can genuinely maintain enthusiasm for these artists after such a long time. As a listener it does get old tbh, kind of impressive, but still gets old hearing about the same like 3-4 artists every week.

Ragle Gumm

That Glen Campbell song was lethal too

Joss Humberstone

Not a big fan of this music genre so was totally lost in this episode. Really wish it was a nice 20-30 minute segment instead of the whole ep. But totally respect the love everyone had on the subject. At the end of the day, I really just tune in to hear some jokes, puns, and funny voices, so this ep felt slim. You know when the typical comic podcast has another comic on and they just talk about “the road”? Yeah this felt like that.

Alexander Darko

Kinks>Beach Boys>Beatles

Des L

Hothead caller with the very underrated pun - “Enjoy ‘da vision” 👏🏻

Joss Humberstone

Thank youuuu!!

Carly Melancon

Good horning! It’s a cool bike shop in San Marino (which is basically South Pasadena) that also sells plants called Cub House https://cubhouse.cc/

Tim Heidecker

Tim I live in Greenpoint wanna hang out?

Jimjim

Mark Volman used to teach a class about the music industry at pierce college in the valley that a number of my friends took. I got to meet him once and he seems like a good guy. Also beyond the turtles great career, Flo and Eddie have sung on a pretty amazing list of songs from all the T. rex stuff to the psychedelic furs love my way. Not to mention their great beach boys pastiche “keep it warm”.

jeff s

Vic killed it

Zach Searcy

(Cause I'm into both and intrigued)

Carly Melancon

What is Matt's bikes plants t shirt about?

Carly Melancon

Love the in-depth musical talk. Always a highlight of the show.

Count Crackula

Hold the A-treat Big Blue, but I will wholeheartedly recommend United Sodas of America sour blueberry soda 🤌

Girshwin Chapdelaine

Glad to see Glen Campbell on the show today. "I'd like to thank Mike Love for not mentioning MEEEEEEEEE" - Bob Dylan.

Jim D.

Loved the beach boy stuff today, I didn’t know anything outside of Dennis’s connection with Charles Manson!

Steven krieger

Great show today! My weekly radio show "The Seagull" will be playing Brian and Dennis Wilson deep cuts next Wednesday at 9pmCST listen online at WVMO.fm

Scott Pauli
