Doug's Tour Diary Day 1: Melbourne
Added 2024-02-21 18:44:45 +0000 UTCThe direct flight from LA to Melbourne was 15 1/2 hours! I played tennis during the day hoping to feel tired and sleep during the night flight but not much luck. I grabbed a few 30 minute naps but was pretty awake the whole time. I came prepared, I had podcasts, games and tv shows downloaded on my phone and books on my kindle. For some reason, I'm not much of a movie watcher on planes but after several hours, I caved and ended watching 4 movies back to back. The first was Primal Fear, a 1996 Drama/Thriller starring Richard Gere and a young Edward Norton. Never heard of it but it was good! A twisted ending I did not see coming. Second was Fatal Attraction, I'd seen it forever ago but wanted to watch again. That's a good movie. Can you believe my surprise when I saw this credit pop up?

Also, Michael Douglas looks a lot like Tim? Do you disagree?

Great movie, thumbs up. Next I went over to the European tab. Something about this woman's stare and the odd title made me want to watch it. I love a peek into European life, this one takes place in Germany. Another thumbs up but the ending left me wanting closure.

Finally, a Spanish film "Truman" about an actor with terminal cancer trying to find a new home for his beloved dog named Truman. I dare you to watch this without tearing up. Another big thumbs up, Europeans make good art.
We landed at 7am and had a long day in front of us. I tried to get out and about immediately and stay up to beat the jetlag. Me and the crew walked around and found a delicious Sri Lankan place in a beautiful food court straight from the 80's.

It was hot as hell outside and I forgot to bring shorts! So I went to a thrift store and bought some pants, then went to a dollar store and bought some scissors. For some reason, I can't wear normal shorts, they must be cutoffs. My plan worked great.

Later we all met my local friend Rhys at a Thai place in a parking garage called Soi 38. Rhys and his two friends named Jack got there early and waited in line for us. They waited ONE HOUR in line but they insisted that it was worth it. Not gonna lie, it was extremely delicious, I ordered 3 vegan dishes and the spice made me cry, I was chomping ice the whole time.

We were all ready for bed but got talked into going out for a drink. I had a couple N/A beers at some super exclusive place that one of the Jacks got us into. We shared a desert and yes, it was delicious.

Today is another day off, I took a Lime scooter to a nice part of town and had an avocado toast brekky. Now what do I do?! Note: not sure I'll be able to keep these diaries going, but i'll try, it's about to get hectic once the shows start.
Oh, did you know that the Pound House season 4 finale is up?!
Have a great rest of your night!

2024-02-22 12:35:35 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly, you are vegan. Go to Neko Neko, my fav vegan restaurant in Melbourne. It's vegan ramen, Japanese owned and run. The Dragon Hotpot in Carlton also has vegan hot pot!

2024-02-22 01:55:19 +0000 UTCRemember Doug, if you get confronted by an Aussie who insists you get in the fridge; do as he says. This man (or woman, its 2024 you guys) is actually in the local reserve and will usher civilians into emergency fridges before roaming wild heat waves descend upon the locale. The whole thing will be over in 20 minutes but it happens at least once I week I'm told.

2024-02-21 22:50:22 +0000 UTCImagine my surprise when I literally just finished watching The Teachers Lounge and then went to peruse Doug's tour diary. Agree on the ending, but I couldn't take my eyes off that lady.

2024-02-21 22:04:54 +0000 UTCSo good to have you in town DJ! It's 40 degrees today then dropping to 13 tomorrow (Celsius). Four seasons in one day, they say. I hope you get lots of Australian drops while you're here!

2024-02-21 22:01:28 +0000 UTCI wonder if you find the warm sunny places help with jet lag? I went to Holland in February for 3 weeks years ago and never got over the jet lag the whole time. Sun came up about 8:30am and set about 4:00. I wanted to sleep constantly.

2024-02-21 18:54:17 +0000 UTCJealous. Enjoy!! Also, I *love* Primal Fear and I feel like it's weirdly slept on. Really well-acted, ahead of its time in regards to covering sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, and the last 10 minutes are just the best. That final shot, goddamn.

2024-02-21 18:52:47 +0000 UTCHey Doug, thanks for the report. I'm from sMelbourne and I've never seen that food court, where is it? Thanks Cobber. Be careful in the heat today. Get a dog up ya!
