Greetings from CVG

CVG? No, not CVS, I'm at CVG! What the hell is CVG? It's the Cincinnati Airport!

I'm flying back from another few days of work on the DGG movie. Not the most exciting week, I'm afraid: I flew out Tuesday, reported to set Wednesday afternoon to shoot one scene that took about 2 hours, had Thursday off, and then worked Friday for about another 2 hours...

This morning I woke up to snow. I was staying about 40 minutes north of the airport and dreaded the drive. It was still fully dark at around 7:15 am when I decided I better just get on the road, take it slow, and get it over with.

The snow turned to rain about 5 minutes into the drive south on the 71, which I think I hate more... I'm just not a big fan of driving in cold, driving rain in the dark. I always feel like I'm about to go slip-sliding off the road. I'm driving some midsize Kia that has that auto-correcting steering feature that a lot of new cars have... you know the kind where it nudges the wheel if you dare depart from a perfect line? I'm grateful my Kia is keeping me from drifting into the semi next to me, but it also feels like I'm hydroplaning! Fuck all of that!

So, I got to the airport super early. So what? I'll just sit here and write to you!  I have to fly to Dulles for my connection, which I see is also experiencing weather! No word of delays from the wonderful person who is texting me updates from United Airlines, so maybe I will have a smooth day.

What the hell did I do on my day off in Mason, OH? Not too much. I had a big zoom writing session with the On Cinema gang regarding the Oscar Special... made some good headway... I got some gym time in... I went to a mall nearby called The Liberty Center... a real big complex of shops and restaurants along with your more traditional inside mall. I was just looking for a spot to walk around inside for a bit, like a fucking grampa.

There was a Cabala's across the street and I enjoy walking around that store and inspecting all the crazy hunting and fishing and camping gear you can get sucked into buying.  I looked through the men's clothes, daydreaming about becoming a full-on Carhartt working man guy... I considered making a healthy choice for dinner, but ended up being sucked against my will inside a Shake Shack.

I'll tell you though, Mason OH has some LEGIT Indian Food! Why? I don't know, but the two places I went to were both perfecto.  This place just down the road from my hotel had the very best Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan I think I've ever had!

I watched NYAD on Netflix and it was really good! Lord, both Annette Bening and Jodie Foster were so great. What a story!  (and it's on this day that I learned its Bening and not "Benning" )

I'll be honest, some of these acting gigs can be a little lonely at times. It's fine on set when I'm working, but in this case, it was a lot more downtime than work time. And it was nice for a bit to be alone after weeks of family and friends and holiday stuff... but that fades quick and rolling my carryon suitcase through the Cinci airport I feel a little like a traveling salesman.

But it would be worse, I'm flying business class and have already ordered my meal: BEEF ENCHILADAS which awaits me on the DC > LA flight.   I plan on eating my meal, putting on a movie and nodding off. It will be good to get home.

AND SEE YOU ON THURSDAY!

officially not wishing anyone a happy new year anymore but do wish you peace and love,

oh and the reason for the good Indian food is Proctor and Gamble has massive R&D facility with a very international workforce. Its right across the street from that restaurant

Tim! I live in Mason ohio! we do have amazing Indian food! Its crazy you were down the street from me. email rossmuron@gmail.com next time you're lonely in town if you want a bearded bespectacled agoraphobe to give you the scoop on mason

ross muron

No, Nashville but have been to Cincy area a handful of times as it’s not far from MidTN

Thought NYAD was another NCIS type spinoff and googled it. Going off of the titular swimmers wiki page, the film seems to take a lot of liberties. Also seems to be a lot of politics around their attempts and proof of ability. Guess I better watch this movie :D And then learn as much about Diane Nyad as I can, thanks for a fun research project on a very frosty sunday morning <3 Can't wait for more OCOD, Joey Patron might be the worlds greatest low key movie buff.

"Thank you Tim"

Safe travels! Looking forward to the return of office hours. Helps curb the winter blues 🫶

Lindsey Taylor

Tim Brooks yer making me dizzy

Josh Rachbach

looking good and I love the new start of Cinema. regarding the salesman comment, maybe I heard it here first and I might repeating something, but the 1969 doc Salesman is a must see for people like yourself on the road.

Andreas Karlsson

Will there be a report on how the enchiladas were?

Steven krieger

I don't exactly disagree! I can just imagine getting dropped in and feeling a little lost :)

Grant Bisher

Really stoked for the OHL return! Been catching up on episodes and wanted to give thanks for the Albert Brooks documentary heads up. Started watching it last night and was all smiles. Gosh I love him. P&L!

rainbowdark

Writing zoom sesh on a day off… typical workaholic! ✌️🫶

seiyoung lee

Are you also from Cincy, Stu? Don’t merry many fellow Tim heads around these parts.

Dip Stick

Grant — King’s Island, beautiful homes, some of the best school districts in the nation, 30 min from downtown Cincy—what’s not to love about Mason?! Just gotta know where to go!

Dip Stick

The Greater Cincinnati area loves you, Tim! Thanks for visiting and please come back!

I do background extra work and got back to my first gig since the strike yesterday! Was fun to see everyone I know, but we all felt like, how do we do all this? Was a bit strange, but we got right back into it eventually. Might be going back again on Sunday if here in Massachusetts the snow isn’t too bad. If you ever filmed something in MA, you’d never feel lonely with us, but I can’t imagine you ever associating with the extras, I totally get it though 🤣

Jamie Babs

Tim, you should never travel without your personal assistant. I wish I could be your assistant. I am qualified for the position. If interested, please email jeffshirley@outlook.com

Jeff Shirley

Good thing you’re on United. Alaska grounded 90 flights today! Safe travels T

Shempin Jack Flash

Good update, Tim! Thank you. I feel I've been so out of the OHL loop and looking forward to catching up with it and the HEI, of course. I've been watching a lot of Righteous Gemstones lately and have always enjoyed DGG and McBride's work.

Kevin Doyle

They made you go from Ohio to DC to get back to Cali? Wishing you a no curveball journey.

Jim D.

Peace and Love! Missed y’all this past week

Colton Caulkins

Good to see what you've been doing lately, Tim. I just re-read Michael Mann and Meg Gardner's Heart 2, which was thrilling. I'm not much of a fan of the film, but I highly recommend the book, which is a prequel/sequel that drives through all the story's disparate elements to its stunning ending.

Angelo Mike

Looking forward to the antics Thursday. I'm not feeling confident at all wishing folks happy new year for 2024. It's kind of knee-jerk, but right after I notice that I feel like a clown. To better, more sane times, be safe.

Mary Newman

I grew up around Mason - not a place I'd love to be stuck for a work stay, but you seemed to have sniffed out the best past - Indian food. If you have to return, you might not regret popping one town over to Loveland. One of the best record stores east of the Mississippi is there, Plaid Room Records. A very unlikely place

Grant Bisher

Safe travels! Can’t wait to see you Thursday!

I went to Abbey Road while visiting England last week. I made it extremely clear to everyone I was flat out not going to walk across for a picture. It wasn’t going to happen. Well, you get a bit swept up once you arrive, don’t you? It was thrilling. Highly recommend. Also picked up a UK pressing of Dylan’s Empire Burlesque from a used record store. Sounds great, even if the album is not very good. “Dark Eyes” is lovely though

Shane Mendez

I was eating a nice salad at a restaurant recently, before I was finished the waiter tried to take my plate, I exclaimed Naan! don't Tikka Ma Salad! He said Be Friend Chill, Oughta..

Super Sanjayan

I understand the loneliness aspect yet can only imagine what it must be like to have to perform for a couple of hours in a director’s fantasy land then go back to mediocre American life. Tim, If you ever have time while in Cincy metro and it’s not poor driving conditions, and speaking of abbreviated names for institutions, the CAM (Cincinnati Art Museum) is pretty great.

Stu Walker

Peace & love!

Carol

cincinnati is right on the border. northern kentucky is still in the cincinnati-metro area.

Tim Brooks

Is that the Ohio airport that’s actually in Kentucky?

Hekkmart

SO close to where i am! i go to liberty center all the time. wish i had gone thursday so i could’ve said hello.

Tim Brooks

I always appreciate these updates, it's like a friend checking in, get home safe Tim!

Jackie

Driving in icy snow is so scary. I always put a mile between me and the car in front of me and go like 40..

jorbyte

Happy New York!

Zachary Verhoff

I tripped and fell into a Wendy's the other day I get it

Sean Hopkins

SiouxzyQ

Naan of your business, bud!

Schnilmsy

Do you method act like Shia LaBeouf and refuse to shower or wear deodorant to stay in character? I think that would help your skills. Thanks for the update!
