Tim Heidecker's Major 2023 Recap!

Hey all, hope you're having a restful, joyful holiday.

Taking a moment to reflect on another busy year, despite my so-called industry shutting down for much of it. I used to do this on my old Tumblr account, anyone remember that?

This is mostly stuff that happened outside of office hours which was a total joy all year... I think the show really stepped up its game with guests, games, Doug's slideshows, Vic's break videos... I'm excited for more in 24...

2023 began with some recording with the Very Good Band for a new record, which took a little longer than I thought and even longer to find a place to release it. It's all good though and will be coming sometime next year.  I'm very very pleased with this one.

The 10th Annual Oscar Special was a new level of absurd darkness for us. So many carefully crafted moments, including Eric Notarnicola's masterfully directed VFA Van Crash Footage.

The day after the Oscar Special, me and the VGB took off for the UK to spend 3 weeks touring around the UK, Ireland, and Scandinavia. It was a little harder than the previous summer's tour, having to Sprinter/Hotel it everywhere... and it was pretty cold but we still had a GREAT time, and my love and fondness for the whole gang just got a bit bigger. I LOVE it over there....   Thanks to all out there who came to those shows! I really wanna get back!

In May, I headed out to Hoboken, NJ to do a small part in Kyle Mooney's new movie Y2K - which was fun, and got to work with and hang out with Alicia Silverstone! Despite some fairly significant political differences we ended up getting along great.  It was trippy to hang with her, as we're both the same age.

Back to the east coast in June to Manhattan for a few days to shoot a few scenes for a secret Pavement project with lots of good people, including old friend Jason Schwartzman and I dropped in on Chelsea Peretti's movie premiere (a movie I'm in!)

Also in June, I headed to Kansas City to take part in a charity event called The Big Slick, created by Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis. It was more fun than any charity event should be. Lots of parties and a softball game at Kaufman Field. I reunited with my friend Will Forte and we had a lot of laughs, and spent some quality time with Richard Cristy from the Howard Stern show.
Also reunited with my Moonbase 8 co-star and mega-celebrity, Mr. Taylor Swift...

Made some new friends and generally had a really fun 48 hours.

Blew Miile's mind with this pic with Finn....

Some family times in Florida and then it was back on the road with the VGB to do another round of dates in the USA; hitting cities we missed last summer. It was as fun as ever, back on the bus with my pals... I kept a diary that you can find right here on the Tim Blog, or pick up a copy of the latest McSweeney's who published it as a real (tiny) book!

Also in August, under the hushed quiet of the strike, Killing It Season 2 came out, which I had filmed most of late last year and the early part of 23... I had a lot of big juicy scenes which amounted to me mostly yelling at people and acting like a lunatic. I really had fun working with Craig and Claudia and it's actually a really funny show! I'm proud of it!

Kept the fall pretty quiet as I waited for the strike to end and generally recovered from the busy spring and summer - but still managed to cram in a few things... Eric and I were in New York to direct a commercial that you will see soooooon (on the Super Bowl!)

I took a day and filmed the Very Good Band in the studio running our live set and some new songs and had Ben Berman and a small crew document it. It's being edited now and should be coming out later next year!

This love fest of a profile dropped in October, but I feel it went unnoticed because it was so damn uncontroversial!

I did a lot of stand-up around LA this year, trying out some new stuff, not in character...  did a few shows at the Dynasty Typewriter - one with just me and Fred goofing around for a few hours and one mixed show, with me doing stand up, then singing an acoustic set with Ellie and then Fred coming out to improvise with me. I also had Kacey Johansing come out for a few songs.  I really loved the format and would like to tour that show one day.

Thanks for helping out JOSEPH!

I also had a fun time getting up on stage and playing some classic rock in a few different situations. One was the Vulture Festival where Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatche) asked a few people to pick their favorite song from when they were 16- I picked a Lemonheads song. Then we all played Baba O'Reilly and I got to do my Daltrey rock voice. I also was honored to sing at the Denny Laine Benefit show and stuck the landing on a rocking version of "Let Me Roll It" where I hung out with fuckin Paul Shaffer backstage!

In December I headed to Ohio to shoot a few scenes on a David Gordon Green movie and finally managed to get back to On Cinema and shoot a new season!  COMING JANUARY 3rd!!! JOIN HEI NOW!!!

Finally, I got to sneak in a final piece of music for the year with Cold Medicine.

What the hell did I miss? Surely something, but that feels PACKED enough.

Peace and LOVE!

people enjoying gutfeld is flatout dystopian. PBD is like a real life rodney dangerfield without the self awareness to be self deprecating

PBD's a fucking gold mine of blow hards being unintentional parodies of themselves. I saw a little bit of his interview with supposed edgy comedian Andrew Schultz just to find him praising Musk and talking with Schultz about what strategies Ron DeSantis needs to win the election. So in other words, edgy, truth-teller comedian Andrew Schultz is just a conservative who loves the smell of his own farts. Tim's mocked this right wing format so well both here and on On Cinema that I start getting cognitive dissonance because it almost feels like PBD saw Tim's On Cinema conservative rants and it was the inspiration for his show. And I cracked up when PBD and Schultz talk about who they believe the king of late night is - Greg Gutfeld. And then they talk about how great Andrew Jackson and that they both hate the negative connotation to the word "nationalism". I mean, I could go on, but it's wall to wall fart huffing.

Tim incase you missed this Patrick Bet-Davids classic it's pretty great he defends his dodgey MLM business model for over an hour, next level waffling and bizarre rambling stories: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQAR1ri-o_U
