Doug’s Tour Diary Day 7: San Antonio
Added 2023-10-17 17:50:10 +0000 UTCPlayed San Antonio last night. The venue was outdoors and the weather was good. My only complaint is the backstage bathroom. The stalls are right there in the room, so if someone needs to go, there they are. Are you kidding me?

The crowd was great though, I mixed up my set a little and tried something new which is to call back all the jokes I told for one big remix at the end that wraps it all up.
Eric’s show was great, I gave him two suggestions that worked well. The celebrity guest was a Donald Trump impersonator and he was not the best! Getting these local weirdos can be a real crapshoot. Mike was running around like a madman and at one point, he tripped while walking up the stairs and spilled the entire McDonald’s bit on the floor. It was hilarious tbh. The photo below is not from that moment but you get the idea.

Never been to San Antonio so I went for a walk the night we got there. Ended up at The Alamo, a building that I only know about from PeeWee’s Big Adventure. The myth seems to be about Texans fighting for freedom but when I looked it up, it seems like slavery was the divisive issue. “In 1836, John Quincy Adams described the Texas Revolt as the first civil war "between slavery and emancipation." The Alamo memorializes the first battle of the American Civil War, full twenty-five years before the battle of Fort Sumter. It is the first Confederate monument to slavery.” Yikes

Anyway, our hotel was by the river walk, which features neon boats, Margaritaville and a Ripley’s museum.

Pants update: Joe did not have time to retrieve the ancient jeans but he did share this public work of art with me:

Off to Dallas now. Peace ✌️

2023-10-18 18:42:03 +0000 UTCPhil Collins of all people has the largest collection of Alamo memorabilia in the world. He donated it to a proposed Alamo museum but last I checked they haven’t gotten their act together and it’s still unopened. Also most of it is probably fake anyways. The Brits love the Alamo for some reason. David Bowie chose his fake last name after Jim Bowie, of knife fame
