Doug’s Tour Diary Day 5: Chicago
Added 2023-10-07 22:46:26 +0000 UTCChicago crowds never disappoint and last night’s show was killer. We played the Salt Shed, which is a massive Morton Salt… factory? I remember passing by it tons of times when I lived there. 10/10 bathroom experience, complete with high tech remote-controlled bidet. Took me a while to figure out how to turn it off but that’s ok because it was cold outside and it had a heated seat. I was worried about the venue being so huge. Sometimes it’s hard to connect with the crowd in that situation, especially with a barricade. I felt that a bit but did pretty good.

For lunch we went to Dove’s Luncheonette. My old pal Courtland runs the place. The food was delicious, I had the avocado toast and a side of potatoes. Oops I ate some cheese.

We hadn’t gone out after a single show, so Eric organized an after party at a *gulp* dance club. They put me on the flier as one of the DJ’s. These days, DJs just bring a thumb drive with all their tunes on it. I had the runner get me one but my computer doesn’t have usb! It only has usb-c so I brought my laptop, thinking I could just plug into the mixer via headphone jack. The club did not have that cable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve searched through dusty cabinets at a party looking for a cable or trying to get some tech item working. Long story short, it was a shit show but I finally got a cable and played some silly songs. Somehow my set got rave reviews afterwards. We were sectioned off like royalty in a vip zone with bottle service. They didn’t have non alc beer so I had a seltzer water. I set it down for a bit and saw some underworld types so I took no further sips.

After an Irish goodbye, I got an Uber. My driver slowly delivered me to my airport hotel while doing less than 50 mph on the freeway. He got a few well deserved honks for that.
The hotel was fancy but the lid didn’t fit on my coffee cup. I brewed some green tea but jettisoned the beverage when a spill on my luggage hand was caused by the no lid sitch. Off to Minneapolis now.

2023-10-09 13:55:57 +0000 UTCThe potential to DJ with your laptop and not just a USB means you should do drops like on the show. Not sure how many folks would appreciate that...
