Doug’s Tour Diary - Day 2 Kansas City
Added 2023-10-04 21:00:03 +0000 UTCI am currently in a minivan. JP is at the helm. We are driving to St. Louis. I brought my skateboard along thinking I could get some exercise in my free time. Starting to think that might not happen since we have to leave around 8am most days to get to the next town. No cozy tour bus driving through the night. We get to sleep in a hotel but not too many z’s so far. This is my first tour sans alcohol, that could have something to do with it. Sure is easy to conk out after about 6 Modelos. Now, I guess I have more energy so I gotta find something to do with it. Yesterday I walked a mile each way to a coffee shop. Didn’t wear me out a bit. I almost went to the hotel gym, but watching E! on an elliptical machine isn’t for me.
I skated on stage last night when JP introduced me. That was a great way to start my set. The crowd was excellent but the house wasn’t exactly filled. The ones who turned up seemed to love it though. Eric sure makes a mess on stage, it’s a pretty outrageous show and he does not hold back. It was eerily quiet and tense afterwards while the union guys mopped up the mess after the show. I suppose they didn’t have as much to clean up the night before after Bob Dylan himself performed at the same venue.
In every city, they try to book a local celebrity guest. The biggest one they could wrangle was Cathy, the Marble Lady. She seemed to have a fun time but covered her eyes a lot as Eric “interviewed” her.
Well, I’m getting car sick as our Chrysler Pacifica sails across I-70 so I’m gonna call it. Looking forward to seeing Lieutenant Carson in St. Louie. ✌️

2023-10-04 21:17:45 +0000 UTCAs a former union stagehand, I can assure you no. You just show up at the call time and do what the road crew tells you. 🤣

2023-10-04 21:11:04 +0000 UTCsorry about the wasteland that is snooty Chesterfield, if you have time you might like the hipper areas in the Delmar Loop or Weird Maplewood further East. I appreciate your honesty, just do what you can. See you in a few!!

2023-10-04 21:10:06 +0000 UTCI wonder what kind of heads up the cleanup crew has for any given show. Like if they know it's coming, it still sucks but at least you can anticipate it. If it's a total surprise then ffffff... lol.
