Tour Diary - Part 28

Bumping our way through New Mexico.  Naturally, it's quite scenic out the window.

Ended the tour with a HOT one. Smaller but packed converted movie theater, a little odd, but sounded really good. Had a spiral staircase you had to use to access the stage, and could be seen from the audience, which made for some fun entrances.  I swallowed down tears a few times, especially when shouting out my dad who was in the audience, which I did before kicking into Stupid Kid.

A tattooed, muscle man, with lots of cologne came up to count in Sirens - another fan who don't look like a fan... looked like a dude that would kick my ass for goofing on Trump. As you know, I love my normals.  And maybe I've said this before but you really feel the love and appreciation when you come to these smaller cities.

After the show, we went down the street to The Pump, a funky bar that decided it didn't need to use Air Conditioning, despite Pizza Oven temperatures outside.  There were remnants of people from the show still drinkin, and man were some of em gone done drunk. I did my best to be nice and grateful without giving them the impression that I wanted to hang out.  I wanted to hang out with my crew.  The bar was playing some terrible pop punk, so we asked them to put on The Band, which they did! We closed the place down with a couple of rounds and then got out of there.  Ellie split off to have one more with her dear friend, a great country singer-songwriter I got to know throughout the day, and JP had to depart... taking a flight the next morning for a one-off gig in Texas, so it wasn't the storybook end of tour night on the bus when we got back, but that's OK, we got our hugs in and I've got a couple more nights with this gang before we call it a summer.

I guess I'll keep the entries going until I get home, but there may not be too much more to report. I must say, I've really enjoyed starting my day doing this... I wake up thinking about it, and it gets me out of bed. I make my coffee and sit here, alone, looking out at our weird country, thinking about yesterday.

And I think I'll really appreciate having this record years from now, although maybe the whole thing will just break my heart when I look back.

Don't Look Back. Or maybe: Look Back Responsibly.  :)

I hope, in your short time out yonder, what you saw and heard made you all fonder of people like me who just love to be dazzled by your wit and wonder The magic has come to an end But I feel like I’ve met an old friend Whose sparks still remain despite leaving again “We’ll see you!” I boldly contend

You can look back, but don't stare. Keep your hands at 10 and 2 and use the rearview mirror once in a while. The NYC show was a Summer highlight and parenting milestone for me. Excited for the new album to drop. Stay LIT.
