Tour Diary - Part 24

Here we are in Milwaukee! We're here a day early and are just gonna take it easy and rest up for our LAST THREE SHOWS!

Yesterday was a fun one! lots to report, from Indianapolis, but first, Robin's the bus driver's review of the show!

I see him first thing in the morning;

"Hey Robin, what did you think of the show." Long pause.... "It was OK.... I was a little confused by the first guy (chuckles) I guess that's the OTHER Tim (chuckles).... I say... "The band was good, right?" "Yea. Now I know what everyone does (chuckles)"

Nice talking to you Robin!

After that I went out for some breakfast - I found a place called Wild Eggs that looked good, not far... and sat down at the diner-style bar. It was very busy - a Sunday morning. Listen, for a place called Wild Eggs, you'd hope they'd know how to make eggs over medium. But they came out with runny whites and a broken yolk. Not cool, Wild Eggs.

I was in the market for shoes, as my all birds slip ons were starting to go on me... folks they were starting to  STINK.  Right across from Wild Eggs was Stout's Footwear! what seemed like a local institution. I walked into a nice big shoe store. A middle aged woman immediately came to me asking if she could help. She had me sit down and sized me up... Been a long time since I had someone size up my big old feet!  She then pulled a few options that were similar to my slip-ons, and the first one was pretty much exactly what I was looking for.  She asked me what I was doing in town and I said we were playing music. What kind? Oh like rock music... I don't love getting too into the weeds all the time, but she then volunteered "I just saw Bruce Springsteen last week, it was so great!" My gal!  We talked about how Bruce got sick and had to cancel. She was like "He probably got covid,... AGAIN." I recommended the book I just finished reading, Deliver Me From Nowhere, the making of Nebraska. She wrote it down. It was a lovely Midwest shopping experience.

We sound-checked and were all happy with the sound. The room was Egyptian-themed, so I launched into a crazy Egyptian-style riff that had us all laughing and locking in on. Luke filmed some of it and I posted it yesterday on Insta...

I had an idea for a city-specific joke, that would be in the long-form time-wasting Norm MacDonald tradition. I spent some time building a pointless backstory that would lead to an Indianapolis pun. It would be a joke mostly for me, and the band: an endurance test for the audience.

Here's the Indianapolis Joke!

Minutes before showtime, Ellie insisted on getting video of this little gag we were doing where I put a Ricola in my top lip, making me look like I have something very wrong with my mouth. We kept trying to film it and she kept cracking up. We finally got a take about 2 minutes before showtime.

The show was great! The audience was really into it. The stand-up, despite the shaggy dog story, was really locked in. The music set cooked. I have no complaints, and CHEERS to Indianapolis for coming out and BEING THERE for us!

See you tomorrow Milwaukee!

See ya tomorrow night at the Milwaukee show!

The lip thing had me, swore I saw you grin as the camera cut away, good bit.
