Tour Diary - Part 21

In a Love's parking lot, for a bathroom stop, north of Nashville!
Louisville was a blast! The Whirling Tiger, a classic standing-only rock club... packed to the gills with good people who were THERE for it!
The highlight for us was Will Oldham coming up and singing "Your Doomed" with us. I texted will the other day, inviting him to the show and suggested coming up. He was game. He and his wife popped up during the break, after stand up and we caught up for 2 minutes (i hadn't seen him in YEARS, aside from some very intentionally weird Office Hours appearances) and we ran through the song, quickly. I called him up after "Stupid Kid" and he whispered, "That was so beautiful" - Of course, I'm always sensitive when REAL musicians I respect are in the audience and it felt nice getting some appreciation from him... And then he just soared. The crowd swooned. A triumphant moment for all. Josh and Conner were both nervous. They are huge fans, and after the show I don't think I've ever seen Conner happier. Will is his hero. Ellie wasn't familiar with him but was knocked OUT by his voice and is now a fan. If you're not familiar, I'd highly suggest going down a Will Oldham, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Palace Music rabbit hole immediately.

Aside from that, we had a group of dudes up front singing along to EVERYTHING, and one of em ended up crowd-surfing during Backwards! We all watched, holding our breath, hoping for a safe return to the stage... which he did to great cheers from the crowd. Wild! We even had a dude pass out towards the end of the show, not a drunkard, but someone who had a medical condition and I was partially to blame as I insisted he get down on the ground during hot piss with all the rest. Luckily there was a nurse there who tended to him and I came out after and spent a little time with him. He seemed to be doing alright when he left.
A fun after-show hang in the green room. Ellie and I were talking about the "your doomed" song and how simple it is which got us into an impromptu Cat Stevens jam, playing The Wind, Father and Son, and more... Then on the bus Vic was blasting Todd Rundgren's first few records, some of my favorite records... and we were all singing along. We love music!
Nashville tonight should be interesting. Playing the City Winery and I've only heard bad things (the layout of the room, the sound) but I know we'll make the best of it!
I shall NOT be having Hot Chicken. All the best!

The Bob Dylan cover was the highlight of the show for me. I laughed so hard Tim looked up like, "is there a crazy person in the audience?" Thanks for coming to stinky Louisville!
