Tour Diary - Part 20!
Added 2023-08-17 12:52:40 +0000 UTCLet's take a moment and celebrate 20 consecutive diary entries! how many of you thought I wouldn't keep it up?
We're parked outside of The Whirling Tiger in Louisville, KY and I can already tell tonight'll be different. It's a smaller rock club - a big change from THE MEGACORP LOGISTICS PAVILION last night in Newport, KY, across the river from Cincinnati.

I can't wrap my head around this place... It was nice and new inside with great, clean greenrooms... good sound... but that name! Why??? I looked into MegaCorp Logistics and their corporate headquarters is in North Carolina! WHY!! I can only imagine some conversation between people at MegaCorp HQ:
Gary, I know how you feel about branding, but this just doesn't feel right, for a rock venue.... What about MCL Live?
Gary: No.
But I made it work, with lots of digs on the name during both sets and the audience loved that. Vic played a location-specific cover of Blue Moon of Kentucky and to honor the 45th Anniversary of Elvis' death. I got to bash away on the organ and sing some Danko-style harmonies.
After the show, we had a lot of laughs on the bus, playing some of our favorite bad songs, including Ringo's "This Is An Anthem" and Don Mclean's "Addicted To Black.' We talked about Don's weird very young girlfriend, and I think I may have ruptured something deep in Vic, making him laugh so hard he nearly passed out, when I showed him this picture.

That feeling is creeping in - the end of summer, the lights at the party aren't on yet, but people are starting to get their coats. 7 more shows. I've been enjoying myself and keeping healthy (aside from bus air/general air conditioning congestion, and the strain on my vocal cords) But there's also always that lingering feeling of waiting for something bad to happen. Keeping 8 people healthy and happy can be a little stressful. Every day, there exists the possibility of a million things going wrong. But as we cross off the dates on the wall, that possibility diminishes each day and the stress eases. I'll be happy to be home and with the wife and kids, but I also know the post-tour blues is coming. I'm gonna try my best to just enjoy the hell out of this last week.
And you get to enjoy another Very Special Office Hours with Jay Weingarten. This one is BRUTAL. Strap in.
See you TONIGHT Louisville!

I'm a cinci resident. So megacorp is a company that's an offshoot of another company here in Cinci. The company split from TQL Logistics, the cofounder of TQL thought things were "too corporate" at TQL and then started Megacorp as a sort of tongue in cheek joke. However, Megacorp and TQL are equally awful companies that represent late stage capitalism at its worst, cute story aside.
