Tour Diary Part 4
Added 2023-08-01 15:19:37 +0000 UTCA night off! We're cruising past El Paso en route to Van Horn, Texas where the bus will park in a hotel parking lot, and we'll have one room to take turns showering... I've stopped in Van Allen before and folks, there's not much more to do there than that. There's one of the worst Mexican restaurants I've ever had, famous for its shrine to John Madden who would stop there on his way to football games in HIS bus. I got the Chili Releno and it was a limp, soggy, under-fried blob filled with American Cheese. I expect we won't eat there again, but I also expect we'll have a good time tonight, just hanging out, maybe playing some cards or Codenames.
Tuscon last night was a great one! The crowd was so with us all the way, and I found a bunch of funny new stuff to add in both sets. More family times as Luke's parents were there and Conner's parents as well! Conner is a Tuscon native and a local celebrity, as Tuscon knows how to treat great pedal steel players right.
After the show, we went down the street to Che's Lounge to see Conner sit in with his pal's country band Donky Konk (?) who absolutely ripped! A loose mix of originals (with a Waylon Jennings influence) and covers. They don't really rehearse, so the leader was calling out changes and showing the boys charts before the songs. I love that kind of loose energy on stage. And they RIPPED! It was outdoors, the weather had cooled, and the moon was full (enough) a nice way to end a successful first leg of tour.

See you tomorrow San Antonio!

I'm too late... But should have pulled the bus over in Las Cruces, NM if you were in search of some good borderland dining. Cool little town.
