Strike!

Good news for the caller who asked about the Pizza place in Syracuse - let's hope he's joined, so he can find out that it was::::::

Pavone's Pizza

since you were dying to know, I'd like to know if this answer is meaningful to you

How about that show??? MIB was really funny, the Hitler talk, the club random shit, great tunes and a nice hang with Tim B?  Who could ask for anything MORE!

Big news at the Heidecker household: Charlie has mastered the art of bike riding!  it was pretty cool, I worked with him a bit on Sunday and then took him to the park on Wednesday and he just started going for it. It just clicked and now he's full time ridin. Unfortunately we don't live in the best bike riding neighborhood. Not a lot of sidewalks, and lots of hills, so bikes tend to get ridden and then sit around for months. But this summer, we're gonna try and get out there more.

Hey how about that strike? It's looking like my union, SAG-AFTRA will be set to strike too soon. Of course I've voted to authorize a strike and stand in solidarity with the writers (for some reason I never had to join the WGA but of work with and am friends with many members)

But i must admit here, my friends. I am worried. I am nervous because I don't think we hold all that much leverage. Someone told me a staggering fact, that I CANNOT verify but maybe you can? Someone told me that at Netflix - about 12% of there content is WGA generated material... That's not good!  Do not forget that Netflix is a giant tech company that thinks in GLOBAL terms - they are worrying about expanding in China and India and may end up looking at the 12% and say, Fuck it. Take it or leave it. If you leave it, we'll just get our content from existing material, reality, documentary, sports and the vast pile of International content that's exploding right now.

I don't know how the late night shows survive. They are money losers for these networks - They cost a lot and are bloated and generally irrelevant. This article is amusing because of who it's about, but also could probably apply to everyone else at that hour of the night.  There's a picture of Stephen Colbert standing in solidarity with his writers and folks, there are 18 of them.... 18! 18 writers for that show? 18? uh... 18 writers? excuse me? 18?   Have you watched that show?  Yikes.

So I don't know. If SAG strikes AND The DGA (directors guild, of which I am also a member) Maybe then we could start to see some sweat from the Studios. IATSI, Teamsters, sure, let's shut it all down and rethink how all of this stuff gets made. And I do get it, please don't think I'm "taking the side" of the studios... I understand they are sitting on Scrooge McDuck piles of cash (or are they? I think Netflix is actually deep in debt? but also, like pays their CEO hundreds of millions of dollars?) But I'm just being a realist. I hope we all get a bigger piece of the pie, more job security, a policy to deal with AI... I really do. And I will what I can with my platform to advocate for that... But I also feel, late at night when I'm trying to sleep... A big shift coming.

The good news is... The shift includes new ways to make and watch stuff like this here Patreon... and of course The Hei Network. I'm all about moving over to these formats full time, and stop dealing with these fickle networks/tech monsters... We're not there yet, but I'll keep trying.  Happy to hear your thoughts on this! Sound off!

PS, Annee Webber (patron?) sent this from a likely terrible show on Netflix Selling Sunset and if you don't think this is EXACTLY what I'm gonna look like for the next On Cinema Season, you are out of your fucking MIND.

Peace and Love, T

Appreciate the insider POV! Big shift coming - indeed. Btw is that Little Caesars ad with Eric one of your director gigs? I rarely watch ads (even tho I sell them on large social/ent platform) but love seeing Eric!
