The Movie on The Plane WAS>>>>>
Added 2023-05-13 13:57:05 +0000 UTCI love Batman... so the movie was... The Dark Knight. So yea, there's so many movies on planes now. And I find some comfort in just putting on a well worn movie i've seen before to kinda zone out... I absolutely love the way The Dark Knight LOOKS. It's pace and the tone of it all is just very pleasing to me. It's like an old friend. I also watched this Spielberg Documentary from a few years ago. It was pretty good! I like Spielberg, generally. One thing I loved in the movie was the real close friendship between Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, De Palma and Coppola... They would hang out, watch each other's movies... DePalma was so mad at an early cut of Star Wars because he didn't know what the hell was going on and he suggested Lucas add an opening scroll to explain what's happening. A real fraternity of movie freaks who loved and supported each other. Pretty neat. Speaking of movie freaks, I had a nice lunch with Ari Aster in New York last week... Ari was definitely feeling the heat from the mixed reviews and polarized reactions to Beau. Here's the weird thing for me, and I will try not to sound boastful but it's true... (and a bit of an answer to some comment from last week's blog which said something like 'dude, Scorsese is out there praising him, I don't think he needs your support') Our early work, Awesome Show in particular is one of big inspirations in Ari's life... He gushed to me about it - How it was the thing that blew his mind and one of the things that made him want to make things. And he has a big love for On Cinema too, gushing over The Trial and we talked a lot about the overlap in our work. My public support for the movie, while probably not moving a lot of ticket sales, really meant a lot to him.
It was a really nice and deep talk about what we're doing, what we want to do, what we don't want to do anymore and how to keep going, making stuff and working with studios, networks, audiences etc... I like him a lot and we've got a nice friendship brewing.
As we were eating, a great place south of Houston called Thai Diner, sitting with a window to the sidewalk, and as it's new york, who but Matt Stone strolled by and sorta recognized Ari... I saw him stop and turn. I waved and he came back to say hi... I've met Matt a few times over the years and he had a few pleasant minutes of hellos, but then he invited me to visit the new Deep Fake company he and Trey had started up. So a few days later I went back into the city and was given a 30 minute presentation by Matt on their new technology. It was... wild. I got in front of the camera and instantly and in real time turned into... anyone. Arnold, Biden, Jim Carey... It was pretty spooky. They have plans to use it for more nuts and bolts production assistance for things like de-aging or adding alien makeup, things like that... But he was also thinking about how to use it in comedy and thought I may have some ideas. It also seems like a pretty good way to start a war. Yikes.
Anyway, fun show! was so good to be back in the studio with DMV!!! and I really enjoyed MC. What a good hang and great songwriter. Loved that Guttenberg nephew calling in! Haha I hope I wasn't too hard on Steve.
We posted the stupid little Turnip chunk and it's so funny to see people in my Instagram mad that it's not funny. It's definitely NOT funny! I almost feel bad for the people not getting that it's a weak, toothless nickname and a satire of the whole feckless, liberal "Drumpf" point of view. Oh well. I really did feel a sinking feeling, watching some of that stupid Town Hall that he's got a very good chance of getting back into The White House. Shit. What a world.
Well, I can't end things on THAT note... hmmm.
This was subtle but made me laugh... Billy Joel playing a nice tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. But listen to this women YAKKIN it up! I made me feel for Billy. That crowd he plays for must be filled with some real trash... People really have forgotten how to be an audience, i think.
Man, Gordon. What a gift. This song... god damn.. Top 10 song of all time? It might be!
OK FOLKS! Have a great weekend! P&L T
