LONDON!

whoa. Last night was Nutso. We played to a very packed,  sold out (over 1000 blokes and birds) in a big, very uninspiring,  converted movie theater -  a big bland room with nothing but people wedged in.  I was feeling a little off and nervous about the big, expectant crowd and when I came out to start the night I walked onto a VERY dark stage. It was apparently ok from the audience but it was dark and disorienting up there. There's a ton of gear for the band, monitors, chords, guitars lots of bulky black things...  and I spent the first few minutes just getting my footing and figuring out where I was.

But the audience was there for it. And once I got comfortable,  I settled in. No offense to Americans but these Brits are right on top of the jokes and they know just what to do with all this awful material.  There's some bits in the middle, perhaps the peak of the set where the laughs come in strange waves that makes me so happy.

The second half started similarly, still figuring out the sound and the lights, i was feeling shaky and dropped a few words in "come away with me" - I always fear I'm gonna totally blank on something - it's happened before, but I was also vibing off the energy from the room and pushed through it -  I wanted to win every one over and match the energy of the music, so I knew every face I made, every guitar sling, or foot shuffle would need to be fully committed to and I dove in and gave it everything.  You can't show any signs of weakness or timidity...

By the time I got to the piano for Lenny Bruce, I felt assured that I had them -  That bit, if you haven't seen it, just works. It just works. I don't know why, but it delivers for me every night.  The band came back out after, and Vic was on fire and the crowd was just loving every little move he made. We had some good banter and shared some true affection for each other.  It was sweet and the audience picked up on that.

By the end of the night, we had the whole room singing along to "Work From Home" like we were at a football game. It was surreal.   We left the stage to thunderous cheers and felt very satisfied we got to put on a good show for everyone.

Backstage,  I got to say hello to the great Robert Popper, a man I simply adore on many levels.  Everyone was jubilant, but I was spent - and I had given all of my voice and knew I just had to stay quiet and rest up for the shows ahead, of which there are still a lot! I think London was the half way point?

We've also gotten to meet some of you on the road and the love for Office Hours is so warm - Thanks everyone for your support here.  Catch the remaining shows and get your tickets for the big summer tour coming to the US right here

here's a little soundcheck jam on Victoria before our Brighton show!
