I Was At That Show - Simone Turkington

Magician Simone Turkington joined Producer Matt for a friendly chat about her journey from working stiff in Australia to working magician in Los Angeles, juggling parenthood and showbiz with her husband Gregg Turkington, and how being a super fan of Mr. Bungle influenced her life in profound ways.

Song featured in this episode:
Juliana Hatfield - "Magic"
Mr. Bungle - "Platypus"

Theme song written and performed by Dean Menta.

Producer Matt is back in the captain's chair (and also writing about himself in the third person - weird!) for another installment of his long-form interview show. Enjoy it here on the Patreon feed, or we recommend subscribing via RSS with your podcast app of choice as well to get all the Office Hours audio content all on one feed.

Playing catch up and get this awesome Friday gem. Thanks Matt and Simone! I remember taking requested stage decorations to the Omaha show for the California tour in 99... they killed. I got merch(including a proposalless sticker)from and handed off the decorations to...not sure if that was Gregg but it's going to be if I ever tell this story again.

What a fun show! Simone is a great storyteller.

I tried. He politely declined via his manager. I think he’s shy about this stuff. Doesn’t do many interviews.

Tim Heidecker

Very pleasant!

Great episode! Would’ve loved to hear what got her into magic, initially. The Chicago Magic Lounge is just a couple blocks from my place, so I’ll be sure to catch her set and mention this episode!

This was great!! I can sympathize being an Australian bungle superfan in the 90s! In fact I was at the Newcastle show on the Disco Volante tour that Simone would have been at (many thanks to Simone for instigating that tour) I was there WITH MY MUM because I was only 15 at the time, but, similar to Simone's mum, she knew what a massive fan I was. In fact, my band supported Neil Hamburger at one of his Newcastle shows in the mid 00s with Dr DJ El Suavo. Greg and I were chatting afterwards and he mentioned his Australian wife, and how Australian women were the best in the world - my girlfriend was in earshot and I agreed whole heartedly of course😉. Also, I managed to secure a handful of drum lessons with Danny when he moved to Sydney about the same time which was an absolute treat (I had mentioned this to producer Matt once before). Probably one of my biggest brags as a musician haha. Great ep Matt and Simone… you guys should still go ahead with the bungle fan podcast!

“…and of no interest to anyone else…” Not true, Producer Matt! It’s the main reason I pressed play!

Simone's so interesting and funny! Loved hearing her gush about her music faves and how she got her foot into magic. Great ep, thanks Matt!
