Oh, THAT'S What Friends Are For?

how about THAT show?  all around good time! Dionne wrote after and said how much she enjoyed it and reiterated how she wants to do a song with me. We'll see! I think i'll try (at least TRY) to write a song for her. It could be her swan song; her "My Way."  

 But first I have to get to next Monday! That's right, my entire essence is now inhabited by Oscar Fever... every day has been a nonstop series of emails, chats, meetings, song tracking, confirming, re-writing, re-thinking, casting,  promoting...   It's really kind of overwhelming. We always pull it off, but I definitely have been getting those night sweats, thinking: "what if we don't?!" well, it won't be from a lack of trying. 

This year seems harder than usual: one, we're fully funding it through ticket sales and memberships, which has become it's own full time job (we're basically our own studio now)  and so now there's the added pressure to deliver something that used to be free to a paid audience and hope that doesn't change their expectations... We'll see!  Two: although most of us are now vaxxed, or half-vaxxed, there's still Covid protocols and testing that adds new costs... and things in general just get a little more expensive every year.  And Three, our standards for the show are so high, and we've done so much that it does get more challenging to write! We want to top ourselves, but also there's something about repetition that's engrained in the world of the show that we still love, so it's about finding that balance of introducing new characters, and ideas, while recognizing that it's a very claustrophobic and closed world and that's funny too.  And without giving too much away, we're trying something a bit experimental and, dare I say, challenging to the audience this year that may be annoying at first but... you MUST trust us.  

So I can't wait and I really think we're going to deliver something great! 

One quick note about subscriptions that i see people asking about/talking about: Our goal is to make 2 seasons and an oscar special a year. That full plan would kick in next year, as this year well on its way already and we've got startup costs and stuff... that's why we prorated the annual subscription for 'founding members'  / but we'll definitely be doing OC12 (which was very much looking like a dead duck last year... we had the choice to throw in the towel and call it a day on all things On Cinema, or go independent...)  between Oscar Special and OC12 we'll be sure to be doing stuff on the Hei Site that will be members only and fun and funny and worth it... we'll also be offering merch discounts, fan community stuff and, ya know... more.  so... Sign up! or get that 10 dollar single ticket before they go up to 12 bucks on Monday...
