Not For Tim
Added 2021-03-26 20:56:51 +0000 UTCoh hi. A note from me, a day early since I'll be in Tiny Tim audio book hell tomorrow :(
So! What a weird day in the world of being online and alive the other day!
After our NFT Fart talk, I knew we were about to launch our own NFT, of the universe gif. Eric and I had been approached by some dude who was gonna set us up and his pitch to us was pretty appealing. We were seeing other artists and makers of stuff, made a good bit of money from something that seemed meaningless and worthless to us. We didn't really see a downside and kinda dug the idea of selling something that we didn't really value or could see having value in the future. sorta, catch the wave of this weird bubble moment we're in. I had talked to a few people about the environmental aspect of it, and the reactions were all over the map, with most people landing on, it's not great, but when you look at it... what is? Every time we do ANYTHING it's setting off a chain reaction, using power, burning fossil fuels... etc.. So I thought, well let's just throw something up there, not make a bid deal about it and see what happens.
After the show, Eric posted it on twitter, and right away I saw it was a bad idea! The internet came out en masse to let them know that we had just murdered their first born... I was an overwhelming onslaught of hate and disappointment. Yikes! Oops!
some had some educated and insightful points to make, including this medium article which, ya know, i mostly read.... and took to heart. I called Eric and we both laughed and agreed we had goofed and should pull it immediately. What was annoying was, as I've said, how boring and lame the whole thing is and I regretted my own laziness in just going along with it. It was something that didn't excite me or even interested me, and here I was on the verge of full cancellation and disgrace over those dumb 3 letters everyone is talking about. All I know is NFTs sure seem to have a perception problem and if they figure that out, and, more importantly, the environmental issues (which i'm told is imminent) then maybe we'll revisit and try to grab some cash for an old Tim and Eric video or something. I'm not ruling that out. Or maybe it'll all collapse on itself. It's all just too much of a boring hot potato at the moment.
And with peace and love, please don't turn these comments into a debate on crypto/blockchain/NFTs... as I've noticed in the reaction to our debacle the other day... it tends to get nasty real quick. It's all kinda sad that we are so quick to know exactly what's right and wrong and there's very little room for nuance. If we are all here together in person, there might be more exchanges that result in " you may be right, I don't know... lets hug" Anyhoo... I'll miss you all next week! Hopefully we'll be back raging with a new studio setup (that may be a bit more under the hood great for us, not so much an "onscreen" change...
oh... and Happy Passover to my Jewish friends! I love you all to bits!
